What we're about

OpenOakland is an all-volunteer collective that bridges community and technology for a thriving and equitable Oakland. We bring technologists, designers, data geeks, advocates, residents, researchers, policy makers, thinkers, and doers together to build community-centered technology that empowers Oaklanders to shape the city we want to live in.

Founded in 2012, OpenOakland was one of the first brigades of Code for America, a national nonprofit making government work for the people in the digital age. For nearly a decade, our digital tools have given Oaklanders a voice in their local government, from mapping community resources to publishing the city budget publicly for the first time ever.

We welcome folks from all disciplines, backgrounds, and experience levels; join us and say hello!

OpenOakland Hack Night

City Hall, Hearing Room 3

Hi All, we are attempting to meet at City Hall for the first time in a long time! We won't have robust programming. More of a soft opening for people to gather. We're also trying to re-establish our presence in City Hall.

We only have a handful of projects which are active right now. Some people may be working on those or if you are new, we can give you an intro and chat a bit about your interests!

This is an in-person only event. We are committed to having virtual events in the future, but may not have a virtual option for every event.
