Follow the Money: A Partnership for Transparent Campaign Finance in Oakland
Details
Did you know over $6.4 million was spent to support Oakland candidates and ballot measures in the November 2022 election? Money can mean influence over candidates and the outcomes of an election. For the last 8 years, the Oakland Public Ethics Commission (PEC) and Open Oakland have partnered to make Oakland campaign finance more transparent through Open Disclosure Oakland.
Join us for a panel discussion and reflection on the collaboration over the years. Suzanne Doran (Acting Executive Director of the PEC), Michael Ubell and Colin King-Bailey (Open Disclosure project team) will share insights on their joint efforts to promote electoral accountability, transparency in campaign activities, and increase civic engagement and participation by Oakland residents. They will also share their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities in building partnerships between local government and community-based organizations, as well as the impact of their joint efforts on Oakland's political landscape.
Whether you're an interested resident, a local journalist, or a community organizer, this panel is a great opportunity to learn more about how the PEC and Open Disclosure are working to strengthen democracy in Oakland. Join us for an informative and engaging discussion!
