PLEASE READ THIS DESCRIPTION!
This is an easy to moderate 4.5 mile out and back trail hike along the Stump Pond at Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown.
We will hike through the woods through winding trails that are very crooty" and occasionally hilly. We will traverse bridges and boardwalks, pass by running streams as we take in the fall foliage.
Unfortunately amongst all that beauty as we look to our right through the Fall foliage we will be able to see the sad desolation of the once beautiful Stump Pond. Ultimatel we will wind our way to the halfway point where, after 10 inches of torrential downpours this past August, the dam burst and gave way emptying millions of gallons of water into the Nissequogue River almost completely leaving the pond empty. This was a true environmental disaster.
PARKING: We will park in the first lot on the left. It's 6/10 of a mile into the park entrance off 454 (Vets Hwy). Go past the toll booth(no charge) and follow the signs to the Boat Launch parking lot. See map
***REMINDER: There is a $5.00 Administrative fee for all unpaid members who attend. Membership fee is good till February 15th, 2025. This fee covers my planning and fees charged to me by Meetup.com.
