Join OUTdoorsy for a fun day at the beach to kick off the start of summer on Memorial Day weekend.

We will spend the afternoon at Mickler's Beach, a gorgeous beach in Ponte Vedra, about halfway between Jacksonville and St. Augustine. This beach is a beautiful one for walking along the waves, and it also happens to be one of the best beaches in Florida to find fossilized shark teeth washed up. If people are interested, I will start our beach day sharing some fun facts about sharks and shark teeth, and invite anyone to join me on a walk along the beach searching for the tiny black teeth among the shells and sand.

But there's something for everyone at the beach! Bring your chair and beach towel if you want just a relaxing afternoon at the beach. Bring frisbees, beach balls, or other games to challenge your friends. Or bring your swimsuit and boogie board to spend the afternoon in the water. Whether you're riding the waves, playing games, building sandcastles, searching for shark teeth, or just sunbathing with a book, there's something for everyone.

I'll bring some shark sugar cookies to share, but don't forget a cooler or bag with some snacks and drinks to keep you fueled for the day.

NOTE: I may change the start time of the event based on the tides 2 months from now. Shortly before/after low tide is the best time for shark tooth and shell collecting, so I may adjust our time based on that.

NOTE 2: There is a parking lot at the beach, but it can get crowded. I highly recommend carpooling with others. If anyone lives near UNF/towards Jax beaches, or along the drive down to St. Augustine, I'm happy to take up to 3 people in my car. :) There was also a shuttle last year on Memorial Day weekend; if St. Johns County does that again this year I will share the details.
