What we’re about
Welcome to the Pacific Photographic Society of San Diego. We are an active hands-on photography group for all levels of photographers and for photographic expertise from novice to expert.
Our emphasis is on photography in the field and in the studio, as well as photo finishing, education and networking.
We offer our members a wide range of photography related events including several monthly photo shoots at various locations, seminars, classes, educational shoots and networking opportunities with other photographers.
We welcome all photographers from beginner to professional and seek to provide an environment that is friendly, professional and enriching for all.
We actively seek the input of our members to ensure that the group provides the activities that are both beneficial and enjoyable to participating photographers.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- World Bodysurfing Championship (Oceanside)oceanside beach, Oceanside, CA
Join us to photograph the 48th Annual World Bodysurfing Championships at the Oceanside Pier on August 16. Approximately 350–400 bodysurfers from around the world will compete in their respective age divisions for trophies and prizes. We will be photographing the preliminaries on Saturday; the Men and Women's Grand Champions will be crowned on Sunday afternoon, the final day. More info is here: https://worldbodysurfing.org/
The contest is projected to start at 6:30 am, but the time is subject to change. We will meet as a group at 7:30, but you are welcome to come as early as you like, or later than 7:30 if that works better for you. Those who are there can meet at 7:30 for the group photo, then head out to shoot. Let's meet at the beginning of the pier, where the bridges/ramps end and the wooden planks begin.
A long zoom will work best for this shoot, as you'll be shooting from the pier and beach. If you enjoy photographing people/participants, bring your favorite street lens!
Parking near the pier is metered, but there are free parking options within walking distance. Double check before you leave your vehicle, but there are two locations that have always been free in the past: Street parking on Pacific Street south of Tyson Street, and the parking structure at Oceanside Public Library.

Join us for an early morning Photoshoot at the Del Mar Racetrack to photograph the Morning Workouts. Each morning the trainers run their horses to get them into shape for upcoming races. You will have an opportunity to practice your skills of catching the horses in action.
Please Note: do not sign up for this shoot if you signed up for the first one.
We will meet by the Will Call Window at 7:30 AM. (See map on event announcement for directions) Be on time!
Your telephoto lenses will work best, i.e. 70-200, 70-300, 80-400, 100-400, etc. No flashes or tripods.
There should not be a fee for parking this early in the morning. If they do charge, it will be $10 per car. We will park in the general parking and walk to the entrance and meet us by Will Call Window. If you come in after 7:30 AM, walk around the paddock. (on your left before the Club House) and you will see where the horses normally enter the track on race day turn to proceed down to the track area (do not walk into the paddock or the entrance to the track stay on the concrete). The workouts conclude at 10 AM (it usually slows down before that). We will be staying in the Grandstand area. If you need to get a hold of me you can reach me at (619) 886-7893.
Instructions for panning photography will be given to those interested. Here are some examples with EXIF information for each image. They were all taken shutter priority: Horse Racing Panning (http://www.pbase.com/amoxtli/horse_racing_panning)
