What we're about

Welcome to the Pacific Photographic Society of San Diego. We are an active hands-on photography group for all levels of photographers and for photographic expertise from novice to expert.

Our emphasis is on photography in the field and in the studio, as well as photo finishing, education and networking.

We offer our members a wide range of photography related events including several monthly photo shoots at various locations, seminars, classes, educational shoots and networking opportunities with other photographers.

We welcome all photographers from beginner to professional and seek to provide an environment that is friendly, professional and enriching for all.

We actively seek the input of our members to ensure that the group provides the activities that are both beneficial and enjoyable to participating photographers.

March Weekday Photo Shoot: San Diego Zoo

San Diego Zoo

Please only submit an RSVP for this event if you’re 100% sure you will attend. You will be counted as a no-show if you do not show up or if you change your RSVP right before an event. You may be blocked from attending specific events after one no-show, and you will be removed as a member if you accrue three no-shows.

Join us for a fun and exciting weekday Photo Shoot in the beautiful month of March at the San Diego Zoo! The lighting, weather, and photo-ops should all be good. The temperatures should be comfortable and the crowds not be too busy.

We will meet at the big tree to the right of the entrance in front of the membership booth at 8:30a.m. and do the group photo and go in at 8:45a.m. and wait to the right. We will enter the Zoo when it opens at 9:00a.m. sharp. Please be on time! If you are late or lost, do not worry, you can call me Walter on my cell phone at[masked], and I will tell you where we are, but try not be late. (As cell phone reception is not good in many areas of the Zoo, I may not answer) Maps are available at the entrance. If you're unfamiliar with the Zoo, take a map. Here is a link to the Zoo website:

Our Route.

Our route will be determined a few days before the shoot and be sent out to you. If anyone has any requests for animals they want to photograph, send me an email and I'll do my best to work it in.

Some special notes (Please read this too):

If you RSVP YES, please show up, otherwise change your RSVP to NO.

Bring walking shoes, water, hats and sunscreen etc. or whatever you need. A long telephoto zoom is the best lens to bring. You can also pack your lunch if you like.

Correct etiquette for Zoo Passes: If you are a member of the Zoo and have a guest pass that can be used by a non-member, please indicate so when you RSVP. If you need a guest pass, please contact the person offering the guest pas via personal message. If your offered pass has been taken, please indicate so. By following this simple procedure we will avoid generating hundreds of emails. Thank you!

This generosity has helped quite a few people in our photo shoots in the past, as the current admission for non-members is now (gulp) $62.00. Thank you.

Members needing assistance or who have questions can ask me or any other Organizers present. We will be glad to help. There will also be other experienced photographers present willing to help out.

It should be another great day out. If you have any questions, suggestions or ideas you can email Walter by going to my member profile. If you get lost or separated from the group, call my cell phone,[masked]. See you there!

Please Note: By submitting a YES RSVP you agree that PPS, Organizers and Event Hosts are not responsible for your safety, or for any injury or accident of your person or your property. You agree that you have read the instructions of the announcement and that you are able to participate in the event at your own risk.

World of Orchids Exhibit at San Diego Botanical Garden

San Diego Botanic Garden

Join us Thursday, March 30th at 10am. Get your tickets directly online and please remember that tripods/monopods are NOT allowed.
Orchid Show is included in general admission to the Gardens: $18, $12 for seniors (60+). SDBG’s highly awarded Artist-in-Residence, René van Rems, AIFD, serves as Creative Director for the World of Orchids exhibit which runs until April 9th. Van Rems will change the assortment of orchids for each week, allowing visitors to experience different flowers and displays. Van Rems says his passion “is to enhance what nature provides through design.” The World of Orchids exhibit displays will “inspire people to look at plants, botanical elements and their environment with renewed awareness.”
The stunning designs feature impressive specimens, locally-bred hybrids, and rare species plants displayed uniquely and unexpectedly. In addition to the many orchids that typically grow in the Garden’s Conservatory, displays will include plants on loan from private growers belonging to two local groups – the San Diego County Orchid Society and the Palomar Orchid Society – as well as orchids and materials from local businesses.
