Street Photography: South Park annual summer walkabout

Details

South Park is hosting its annual daytime walkabout, the South Park walkabout, on June 14th, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Here's a bit about the event: it's a family-friendly stroll through one of San Diego's most charming and historic neighborhoods.

We'll meet at Seven Seas Roasting Co. at 10:00 AM—it's a favorite neighborhood coffee spot. Grab a coffee or tea if you're in the mood, and we'll hang out and chat for a bit. Around 10:15 AM, we'll take our group photo and kick off our own photo walkabout.
Our first stop will be Big Kitchen Cafe, just around the corner. It’s an outdoor café known for its Saturday live music. From there, we’ll wander north along Fern Street to Matteo, a corner packed with photo ops. Then we’ll turn left onto Juniper Street, stopping by Cafe Madeleine and The Rose—both picturesque restaurants on 30th Street. We’ll continue on to Meraki, then head to another vibrant corner where Buona Forchetta sits, surrounded by shops and a colorful mural. On the way, we may pop into Blacktree Barber Company, a great little shop worth a visit.
The route is about 1.5–2 miles total, but with all the stops, it’ll likely take a couple of hours (or longer!). You're welcome to walk the whole way with the group or break off and explore at your own pace.
Expect to find great street photography moments, interesting scenes, and a few murals perfect for portraits or creative backdrops.

Parking & Transit:
Free street parking is available—your best bet is to check the side streets. Public transit options are also nearby, with stops on 30th Street and Elm/Date Streets.

What to Bring:
Bring your favorite street photography gear and good walking shoes, hat, sunglasses, etc. A fixed 35 or 50mm lens or a medium zoom would work well.
