Want to take a 15 day hurricane relief mission trip to St Croix, you get free airfare and $50 per diem towards daily expense. Room and board is $30 that you pay out of the $50.
It is open regardless of religious affiliation.
Opportunity is in Virgin Islands, St. Croix
St. Croix was ravaged by back-to-back Category 5 hurricanes, Irma and Maria in September of 2017. In response to this disaster, a partnership has been formed between UMVIM, FEMA, and Lutheran Disaster Response. UMVIM teams are needed to repair/rebuild homes for residents of the island.
This project consists of individual team members spending a minimum of 15 days on the island. We are also seeking team leaders willing to recruit and organize a team(s). Each team will include:
-A team leader who will provide team support and serve as a liaison with FEMA and Lutheran Disaster Response.
-Skilled volunteers with construction experience; roofing experience is very beneficial.
-General helpers willing and able to assist in any way necessary.
-Team members able to perform strenuous work while being in the sun an average of eight hours each day.
FEMA will provide round-trip airfare and $50 per diem for housing, food, and miscellaneous expenses.
● Each volunteer must bring his/her own twin bed sheets, pillow/pillowcase, and towels. Laundry facilities are available.
● UMVIM insurance is available if needed. The cost varies by the coverage option selected, but is very reasonable.
● Registration fee of $85. This covers the cost of a lodging deposit (deducted from your final invoice), team money, and team t-shirt.
● Money for optional weekend activities.

THANKSGIVING EVE HAPPY HOUR at TWENTY9 !!!
‘Twas the night before Thanksgiving and all through the house... The visiting in-laws were conferring... "does anybody ever clean this house?"
The hosts overheard and tried not to care ... Secretly wishing they could be anywhere else... but there.
Grandma was grumpy and scratching her head..."how am I supposed to sleep on this inflatable bed?"
Uncle Bob took out his flask and unscrewed the cap... yeah he would soon be slumped over for his long afternoon nap.
When up from the their phones arose a terrible clatter... they snatched them from the table to see what was the matter.
They turned on their phones and swiped the screens with a flash... it was the meetup invite for the Thanksgiving Eve Bash!
Until then the thought of Turkey Day had filled them with dread... Oh but now visions of beer and wine danced in their heads.
"Why shouldn't we enjoy our holidays!?" they exclaimed in perfect sync... "Surely they won't notice if we sneak out to have a few drinks!"
So out the door they flew, so careful and collected... They paused for a moment to be sure no one suspected.
They arrived at Twenty9 to find camaraderie and good cheer...A room full of Meetuppers drinking wine and good beer!
Into the evening, the DJ and Chatterband played... they felt so much better... they were no longer afraid.
Thanksgiving had arrived, there was no need to fret... Lots of turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie...yes indeed, the table was set.
"Oh Thank You Meetup Friends for this distraction tonight...Happy Thanksgiving To All and To All a Fun Night!"

Since 2004, Phoenixville Has Celebrated The "Rebirth" Of The Town With The Burning Of A Large Wooden Phoenix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_(mythology)). The Bonfire At The Firebird Festival Is Used To Harden Clay Birds Crafted Over The Preceding Weeks.
An Estimated 5,000 To 6,000 People Flock To Downtown Phoenixville Saturday Night To Witness The Burning And Rebirth Of The Symbolic Firebird.
Many Rave About The Size Of The 24-Foot Firebird. The Bird Will Be Ignited Shortly After 8 PM And The Crowd Will Cheer As The Fire Lights Up The Night Sky—And Provide Warmth On A Chilly December Evening.
As The Bird Burns, The Fire Serves To Harden Dozens Of Clay Birds That Will Be Buried Underneath, Created In Workshops That Will Be Held Over The Previous Weeks.
