About us
All our day walks should be easily accessible for Manchester, Sheffield, East Midlands, West Midlands, West Yorkshire and many with good rail links even from London and the South.
Browse our Meetup site and you'll find lots of cracking walks and one or two bike rides as well.
We also have a big schedule of low cost weekends away throughout the year summarised at the link below.
https://www.peakmeetupgroup.com/weekends
We're a group for all ages and stages and I guarantee you'll be made very welcome at any of our events.
If unsure about anything please ask.
Although everyone can join our group without charge, we are a a subscription based group which means that rather than make a charge for individual walks or require members to join the Ramblers Association to take part as some walking groups do, we levy a recurring Annual Membership charge of £10 or offer Life Membership for a one off payment of £35 but we allow your very first THREE MONTHS ABSOLUTELY FREE after which you need to make a decision about your continuing membership of the group. (Free period does not apply to re-joining members)
Full details are at:- https://www.peakmeetupgroup.com/membership
Most of our active members have at some point taken out Life Membership of the group but once achieved requires no further membership payments throughout the life of their membership.
We understand that new members may be little uncomfortable at parting with payments no matter how small without knowledge and experience of our lovely group so also give THREE MONTHS UNCONDITIONAL MONEY BACK GUARANTEE from the date of payment on any subscription payments you make.
The kitty we generate through membership payments enables us to offer a massive program of budget weekends away and to pay our Meetup Fees, Liability Insurance and other expenses. All our activities are entirely NOT FOR PROFIT and none of our organisers or walk leaders draws any income whatsoever. Any income surplus is ploughed back into creating new events.
Please note that we do consider it essential for our group where members do meet each other 'live' that new members should use a sensible screen name that they expect to be addressed by and that they are prepared to upload/show a recognisable profile picture of themselves on our Meetup site.

94th Annual Kinder Trespass Commemoration Walk
Bowden Bridge Car Park Hayfield (Near Campsite), Kinder Rd Hayfield SK22 2LE, Derbyshire, GBOn 24th April 1932 around 500 walkers, mostly from Manchester, trespassed en masse and walked from Hayfield to Kinder Scout to secure access rights to open country for all to enjoy forever.
After what became known as the Kinder Mass Trespass, five men were arrested and imprisoned for "riotous assembly".
That right to roam for which they fought is now ours to enjoy and what better way to do it than follow in their footsteps a mere 94 years on.
This is a moderately hard walk so only for those used to walking the hills. We plan to follow the route proposed by the National Trust which can be found at:-
http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/dark-peak/things-to-see-and-do/view-page/item615841/
This year we are doing the walk on the Sunday following the actual anniversary date.
Nearest parking point is where we meet at the Bowden Bridge P & D car park just past the Sportsman pub and near the camp site. However this is a very small car park and may be full. There is street parking back to the Sportsman and beyond but this may also be full. If you can, try and arrive 30mins early and park at the Sett Valley Trail Car Park SK22 2ES, on the other side of the main A624. Cross by the Church and then walk up the Kinder Road past the Sportsman Pub to the start/meet point. There are public toilets near to where we meet.
Meet 10:15am for prompt 10:30am start.
If coming by public transport we can pick you up from Hayfield or possibly Buxton and Glossop if you arrange this beforehand.
Overall distance: 9 miles
Accumulated ascent: 675m
What3Words: depth.certified.flippers
Nearest postcode: SK22 2LJ
Take care when using postcodes in rural areas. Always check on the map as well.
Allow a bit of extra time in case the car park is full and you have to look for another place to park.

Dartmoor Spring Bank Holiday Break Walking and Social Long Weekend
YHA Okehampton Bracken Tor, Okehampton, GBA FEW CANCELLATION PLACES NOW AVAILABLE
One of our favourite spots with loads of brilliant walking and cycling options.
NOTE THAT THE SOUTH WEST COAST TO COAST BIKE RIDE IS NOT AN OPTION ON THIS EVENT BUT A SEPARATE EVENT ENTIRELY.
Dartmoor is one of the largest undeveloped land areas in the UK and has these very unusual hills called 'tors' (some 160 in all) which is where the granite pokes through the surrounding area. Tor bagging is so much fun as in the picture above! There are also some stunningly beautiful river valleys and gorges so from a walking point of view we are spoiled for choice.
Our accommodation is right on the edge of Dartmoor with immediate access to the moor but is also on the edge of the rather lovely town of Okehampton complete with up market Wetherspoons and several other great hostelries.
There will definitely be a short 'bonus' walk for those that can make a Friday midday start with general arrival from 6pm+ and a choice of walks on Saturday, Sunday and Monday so hopefully something for everyone. Although there are no mountains nearby don't be fooled, as there are harder as well as easier options. Dartmoor is a major training area for the UK Army so some of you can find out why!
Whilst our prime emphasis is on walking it is also a great area for trail cycling and mountain biking if there are those interested. Some fantastic horse riding is also available nearby from a stables that rides out straight onto the moors. The owners of Bracken Tor also operate an Outdoor Centre not far away so bike hire and watersports on their private lake are also possibilities. Potentially a full four day break in great surroundings and great company for less than the cost of a single night in a hotel or B & B. Amazing.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday night we'll have a selection of food including catering for those with any special dietary requirements that we are notified about. We'll also bring a variety of board games, giant jenga and our well used bluetooth speaker so staying in is an option as well as going out on the town.
Accommodation is single sex bunk rooms of a variety of sizes with full bedding provided but not towels.
Our usual breakfasts, lunch pack-ups and hot drinks will of course be included on all three days of the weekend.
We will also be hosting participants in our South West Coast to Coast (C2C) Bike Ride listed as a separate events.
This trip can now be booked for just £139 (THREE NIGHTS) for which £40 is non refundable payable when you book to which will be added Meetup booking fees. You can also pay via BACS without Meetup booking fees but you must tell us you are doing this so we can add you to the event manually.

Our bank don't immediately tell us who payments are from so if you can put in the reference your name and the name of the event that will be a huge help in reconciling payments quickly e.g. ConwayDartmoor !
If you have to cancel more than 28 clear days before the event start date you will get a full refund less the deposit paid or £40 whichever is the least. No refunds will be provided to those cancelling with less than 28 clear days notice. ("clear" means does not include event start date or cancellation date!)
Obviously if circumstances change and we are unable to go ahead full refunds will be made without cancellation charges of any sort.
Other meetup groups do trips at similar venues for more than twice our price which is only possible as all our organisers and walk leaders are unpaid volunteers and we only seek to cover our costs on weekends.
It would not be possible to provide the range of events we do or to cover the cost of insurance and now increasing Meetup fees if we were not a subscription based group which means paying an annual subscription of £10pa or a Life Membership subscription in which case further payments are not necessary.
If attending our weekends away as an unpaid or lapsed subscriber or as a non member guest you are required to pay an additional £10 when balances become due.
