About us
All our day walks should be easily accessible for Manchester, Sheffield, East Midlands, West Midlands, West Yorkshire and many with good rail links even from London and the South.
Browse our Meetup site and you'll find lots of cracking walks and one or two bike rides as well.
We also have a big schedule of low cost weekends away throughout the year summarised at the link below.
https://www.peakmeetupgroup.com/weekends
We're a group for all ages and stages and I guarantee you'll be made very welcome at any of our events.
If unsure about anything please ask.
Although everyone can join our group without charge, we are a a subscription based group which means that rather than make a charge for individual walks or require members to join the Ramblers Association to take part as some walking groups do, we levy a recurring Annual Membership charge of £10 or offer Life Membership for a one off payment of £35 but we allow your very first THREE MONTHS ABSOLUTELY FREE after which you need to make a decision about your continuing membership of the group. (Free period does not apply to re-joining members)
Full details are at:- https://www.peakmeetupgroup.com/membership
Most of our active members have at some point taken out Life Membership of the group but once achieved requires no further membership payments throughout the life of their membership.
We understand that new members may be little uncomfortable at parting with payments no matter how small without knowledge and experience of our lovely group so also give THREE MONTHS UNCONDITIONAL MONEY BACK GUARANTEE from the date of payment on any subscription payments you make.
The kitty we generate through membership payments enables us to offer a massive program of budget weekends away and to pay our Meetup Fees, Liability Insurance and other expenses. All our activities are entirely NOT FOR PROFIT and none of our organisers or walk leaders draws any income whatsoever. Any income surplus is ploughed back into creating new events.
Please note that we do consider it essential for our group where members do meet each other 'live' that new members should use a sensible screen name that they expect to be addressed by and that they are prepared to upload/show a recognisable profile picture of themselves on our Meetup site.

South Snowdonia Walking Break AND Welsh Three Peaks Challenge Weekend
YHA Kings, Kings Youth Hostel, Dolgellau, GBAnother fantastic combination walking weekend in a perfect location, executed in a similar way to that which we did for the hugely successful Yorkshire Three Peaks Weekend earlier in 2025
That is:-
Have a relaxed social and walking or cycling weekend with maybe the challenge of an ascent of the lovely Cadair Idris nearby
OR
Walk the Welsh Three Peaks over the course of the weekend (with additional traveling required)
OR
Take the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge which is to do the same three peaks in 24 hours or less starting Bank Holiday Saturday in the Brecon Beacons!
The choice is yours!
The Welsh three peaks are Pen y Fan, Cadair Idris and Snowdon. What an achievement opportunity for everyone.
To do the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge you use shared transport to do Pen y Fan and Cadair Idris after which you get a meal and a brief rest and we use a local minibus to get you to Snowdon and back. There will be a medallion and certificate provided for all successful participants.
All three options include catered accommodation for 2 or 3 nights as selected.
YHA Kings being the only hostel where you can walk up the lovely Cadair Idris right out the front door, Brilliant. So lucky to have got this.
But South Snowdonia centred on Dolgellau isn't just about Cadair Idris there are loads of spectacular ridge walks and amazing peaks as well as easy and very tough cycling routes for those interested in that.
We will have a choice of walks on each day with a bonus walk Friday for those who can get to the area in time.
All food is included from dinner on Friday to packed lunch on Monday but we have no staff as such so help is needed with preparation and clearing up on a voluntary basis. We do cater for most dietary requirements and preferences but please ask if unsure. We don't normally provide biscuits, cakes or desserts so if you want to bring some of these to share that would be lovely.
YHA Kings has lots of character in a fantastic spot but shopping nearby will be limited so any drinks required need to be brought with you. Yes, we do stay up late, play board games and card games and may even have a bit of music if that's what people want so if you are a sensitive sleeper ear plugs are a good idea.
Those now booking this trip should pay the full amount of just £139 (3 nights) to which a Meetup Booking Fee will be added if you pay via Meetup. You can also pay without Meetup Booking Fees by paying via BACS but please tell us you are doing this so that we can add you to the attendee list manually.
Those who previously paid a deposit need to pay a balance of £89 (two nights) or £99 (three nights) payable by BACS no later than 12 weeks before the event being 5th June 2026.
BACS Details:
Account Code: 40848442
Sort Code: 56-00-61Account Name: Peak Activities & Leisure Limited
Our bank don't immediately tell us who payments are from so if you can put in the reference your name and the name of the event that will be a huge help in reconciling payments quickly e.g. ConwayWales
If you have to cancel more than 28 clear days before the event start date you will get a full refund less £40 or your deposit if less, No refunds will be provided to those cancelling with less than 28 clear days notice. ("clear" means does not include event start date or cancellation date!)
It would not be possible to provide the range of events we do or to cover the cost of insurance and now increasing Meetup fees if we were not a subscription based group which means paying an annual subscription of £10pa or a Life Membership subscription in which case further payments are not necessary.
If attending our weekends away as an unpaid or lapsed subscriber or as a non member guest you are required to pay an additional £10 when balances become due.

Forest of Dean and Offas Dyke Weekend at St Briavels Castle 2026
YHA St Briavels Castle, St Briavels, Lydney, GBWe managed to book this amazing venue for the first time ever in 2025 and it is well AMAZING!! A real castle steeped in history with fantastic walks in every direction. We had an absolutely wonderful time, possibly our best ever weekend so we've just had to book it again for 2026.
The location near to the ancient Forest of Dean established as a Royal forest before the Norman Conquest, close to the Offa's Dyke path and between the Rivers Wye and Severn has to an extent been bypassed by time and remains much as it always has.
The Castle itself has over 800 years of history locked into its fabric and retains many original features and we can stay in its splendour and feast in its banqueting hall. Amazing.
There are loads of walks to choose from with of course a 30k challenge walk for those who must, but plenty of easier options as well for those who just want to chill and absorb the fantastic scenery and historic connections.
The Forest of Dean boasts some of the best cycling and mountain biking in the country from easy circular rides to serious mountain bike challenge routes so no problem organising that as well if some require it.
There may also an option to do a brilliant half day open canoe trip on the Wye which again is accessible for all, depending on water levels.
Friday arrival at our accommodation is from anytime after 5pm but we will lay on a bonus walk for those who can arrive in the area for likely 10:30am to ensure we make the best of the day.
We shall be rustling up a delicious hot meal for Friday night with vegetarian option so no need to eat on the way and although we'll serve up about 8pm, there'll be plenty kept for those arriving a little later. If you require a bevy or three don't forget to bring this with you as it may be a long way to the offy!
Help yourself breakfasts and lunch packups are provided as is hot food Friday and Saturdays night but feel free to bring desserts, cakes and other goodies to share as well as your own drinks. Tea and coffee will be provided.
Saturday and Sunday routes and options will be discussed with everyone on arrival to ensure we are meeting overall expectations but there is loads to choose from.
Accommodation is single sex bunk rooms of a variety of sizes with full bedding provided but not towels.
Those booking from this point onwards should pay the full amount of £144 (£45 non-refundable) when you book to which Meetup booking fees will be added if you book via the Meetup app. You can also pay the full amount via BACS without additional fees but please wait for us to confirm a place is a available before doing this.

New Year Party Social and Walking Break 2026/2027
YHA Haworth, Longlands Drive, Lees Lane, Haworth, Keighley, West Yorkshire,, BD22 8RT, GBOne of the most imposing buildings in the whole YHA network recently taken into private ownership with many improvements in progress YHA Haworth is the ideal spot to provide our final weekend away of 2026 and our first of 2027.
Having spent many New Years Eve celebrations with the group over the years I can't think of a better way to see the New Year in and what a place to to do it.
Bronte Country as they call it in those parts is lovely including a long section of the Pennine Way and the ruins that are thought to have inspired Wuthering Heights. We shall even sort out a New Years Day Challenge Walk for those who must but plenty of walking at every level from rehab to challenging.
Thursday arrival at our accommodation is from anytime after 5pm but we will lay on a bonus walk for those who can arrive in the area for likely 10:30am to ensure we make the best of the day.
Thursday Night is New Years Eve so we have a hot and cold buffet of party food in mind with plenty of options and a party into the wee hours (earplugs essential for party poopers) . We shall be rustling up another delicious hot meal for Friday night with vegetarian option and Saturday too for those who are staying over until Sunday (three nights) for which there is no extra charge.
Help yourself breakfasts and lunch packups are provided as is evening food Friday and Saturdays night but feel free to bring desserts, cakes and other goodies to share as well as your own drinks. Tea and coffee will be provided.
