The walk starts by the war memorial cross on Old Road in Tintwistle.
We’ll meet at 10am to start walking at 10:15.
Passing by Arnfield reservoir, we’ll walk through Swallows Wood nature reserve and onto the moors between Longdendale and the Tame valley. If the weather is kind, we’ll be able to enjoy panoramic views from Wild Bank Hill and Harridge Pike before returning to Tintwistle via Lower and Higher Swineshaw reservoirs and the Pennine Bridleway. Considering their proximity to large centres of population, these paths are surprisingly quiet and little-used. The walk is 11 miles with 700m of accumulated ascent.
Bring a packed lunch and plenty of fluids, and footwear and clothing suitable for hill walking.
There is some on-street parking on parts of Old Road and nearby streets, but car-sharing is encouraged. There are no toilet facilities at the start of the walk.
For satnav users who need a postcode, use SK13 1JY. This will take you to the Bull’s Head pub, near the war memorial cross on Old Road.
Dogs with well-behaved owners are welcome so long as they are on a short lead whenever we encounter livestock.
Walk leader: Brian.
