Lunar Eclipse Picnic on Mam Tor

Details
On 7 September there will be a total lunar eclipse. It is amazing to see as the moon turns a deep red. Let’s hope we get clear skies.
The maximum eclipse we will be able to see will be at 19.33. The moon will be low on the horizon and not easy to see. Mam Tor should be a good viewpoint. We will have a picnic up there. So bring something to drink, eat and sit on. I’ll be bringing some whisky. Warm clothes - duvet jacket, hat and gloves -are essential as we will be up there for sometime if clear skies. I will bring my telescope. Bring binoculars if you have any.
Plan is to meet from 5.45 pm on the old mam tor road in Castleton where there is free parking. Park on the left close to the junction with Arthur’s way. You will see me with a yellow Labrador. We will start walking at 6pm. we will not wait for late comers. Don’t forget a torch and if you have a fluorescent jacket pop it on.
We will walk up to mam tor. Steady pace that suits everyone. Have a picnic and hopefully watch the lunar eclipse and then head back down into Castleton for a quick drink in The George before heading home.
I am not a mountain guide or first aid trained. Attendance will be at your own risk.
