Before the creation of modern mapping apps like Outdooractive and Komoot which you can use on your phone and other devices, planning and leading walks was something most people left alone. Drawing routes on paper maps and measuring distances with string sounds archaic and time consuming today (which it was) but that was where we were all at just a few years ago. Having planned a route a compass was then essential to determine changes of direction.

Those days are gone! Mapping apps now determine the optimum route for you and enable you to track it on your phone so in theory absolutely everyone that can use a phone can create and follow / lead walking routes both in the UK and abroad.

This half day course is for those people who are not quite convinced that our description of EVERYONE includes them and can also act as a refresher for those who felt that they have had it sorted but practice insufficiently to be sure.

We will both explain all the key points and give you the chance to put them into action with others in an approximately 3 hour walk around the lovely Longshawe Estate (NT).

Information will be provided on preparing for the course so you arrive ready to start and we will also give you access to a complimentary 3 month full license for Outdooractive if you are not currently a user. If not already a Komoot user you can download this app FOC but also need to "unlock" the Derbyshire region which again is FOC to new users.

We do make a small charge for these courses to cover our costs but believe you will find it amazing value for money.

You'll be given a time slot as we operate these days in groups of 4 to ensure everyone gets lots of personal attention.

Wear normal walking gear and bring waterproofs, drink, snacks etc.
