What we’re about
How can we create a happier, more fulfilling life and improve our sense of well-being by focusing on what's within our control? That's the question we're most interested in exploring in this group. What's more, we do this using Positive Psychology.
Positive Psychology is the science of human flourishing. The discipline goes beyond regular self-help by using the scientific method to explore what makes people truly happy. This relatively new branch of psychology encourages individuals to acknowledge and focus on the GOOD aspects of their lives and build from there. Simply put, rather than being fixated on what's wrong and trying to fix it....we focus on what is going right and trying to expand it.
This doesn't mean we ignore what's not working. Turning a blind eye towards our problems is not what positive psychology is about. Rather, it's about balancing our natural human tendency to focus on the negative (called "negativity bias") with an intentional effort to also focus on what's working well.
There are things in life we have no control over. BUT, there is so much that we CAN control. Focusing our attention on what we can control helps us become happier, healthier, more resilient beings - more able to cope with the challenges when they arise.
The organizer of this group, Yashi Srivastava, became interested in positive psychology while recovering from one of the lowest points in her life. Yashi went on to earn a Master of Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, where she learned from pioneers in the field of positive psychology.
