What we’re about
Dedicated to those photographers who like to connect with other photographers to share one another's work and attend photography outings.
This group is for people serious about the pursuit of photography. It is for people who want to grow and develop their skills and are receptive to learning from one another. You should have experience and know the fundamental principles of photography.
Although you don't have to be an advance photographer, you should demonstrate a sincere and serious interest in photography.
"When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice."

See all- Dakota Ridge Llama FarmDakota Ridge Farm, Ballston Spa, NY
I don't know about you, but Llamas are especially appealing to me. They are so cute and seem so friendly. I am booking a visit to the Dakota Ridge Llama farm that will include a tour and the opportunity to take photos of these lovely creatures.
From their website Dakota Ridge Farm:"Come and visit approximately 60 llamas on a working farm, they are very gentle and easy to love. We will give you basic information on the many uses and care of llamas. The tours are private, so you will not be in a large group. You will have a personal hands-on experience as we bring out a llama for you to pet, brush, feed and walk. We will bring you in all the barns, so you can see and interact with the animals, including taking photographs.
Please be sure you have completed the Liability Waiver.
The cost is $20.00 per person. They are giving us a discount as we will have two hours for the price of one hour. You can pay for this in their gift shop. They take credit cards or cash. I can have up to 15 - 20 people although I don't expect we will have that many.
Please get there about 10 - 15 minutes early. - Natural Stone Bridge and CavesNeeds location
I visited Natural Stone Bridge and Caves in the winter and really want to see what it is like in the summer.
The massive Stone Bridge is the LARGEST marble cave entrance in the eastern U.S. and is still being carved by the beautiful Trout Brook.
We will walk the self-guided and above-ground nature trail to witness this spectacular display of ancient Adirondack geology. The Rustic stone-step and gravel trail features the old Sawmill Site Waterfalls, Artists' Gorge, incredible potholes and of course several surface caves. Descend into lighted caves and grottos with raging water or tranquil dark pools.
We need to reserve spots on-line at least 24h in advance. The tickets for adults cost $20.00. For more information and to purchase tickets (not on sale yet) go to: Natural Stone Bridges and Caves
We will get lunch somewhere and for those interested go to Stone Bridge Ice Cream for their famous Ice Cream!
Please wear sturdy shoes or boots. May need sunscreen and bug dope.
- Slate Hill Flower Farm- Date is almost certain :)Slate Hill Flower Farm, Sharon Springs, NY
I found this to be an ideal place for sunset last summer. It was gorgeous. The picture here is from that night. I spoke with one of the owners and she said she is pretty certain that June 27th is the night we can go and they will again offer a boxed dinner. I'm waiting for her to announce on her FB page.
Slate Hill Flower Farm is a small, artisan, flower farm nestled in the hills of Sharon Springs, N\Y where they specialize in growing lavender, everlasting flowers, and sunflowers for drying. It is located about an hour west of albany (more or less). Slate Hill Flower Farm
You will want to bring your tripod, a wide angle lens, long lens and filter in case of shooting sunset.
This is a description from last year's events fyi:
"Kick off your weekend while the lavender is in bloom with an evening on the farm. Visit the farm and enjoy Golden Hour when the sun sets on our beautiful valley. It is the best time on the farm for light and to watch the sun set. Cut lavender, take in the view and savor a boxed dinner from Brimstone Bakery while you begin your weekend. Back Barn Brewing Company will be here with their summer beers and cider that are currently on tap. Boxed dinner menu: Grilled Mediterranean Chicken with Hummus and Summer Salad & Orzo Salad with Black Currants & Almonds, Fresh Fruit, Water, and Brownie or Cookies. Ticket includes boxed dinner for 1, and one bunch of lavender." - Full Moon at the Historic Troy Gasholder BuildingThe Gasholder, Troy, NY
Join us for a unique evening of photography at one of Troy’s most iconic historic structures — the Troy Gasholder Building. Built in 1873, this circular brick structure was once part of a coal gas plant used to light the streets and homes of Troy. One of only a handful of 19th-century gasholder houses still standing in the U.S., it is a striking example of industrial architecture that blends engineering innovation with timeless beauty.
Currently the building is owned by the Sage brothers who store paint and other supplies. Bill Sage is offering us his time that evening and it would be nice to offer a donation.I first learned about this building recently in an article from John Bulmer:
The Machine that Breathed Light. I encourage you to read this! We'll gather in the early evening to explore the details of this interesting building — from its curved brick walls and arched windows to the interplay of shadow and light as the day turns to dusk. The sun sets at 8:06 and moon will rise at approximately 8:36. As the sun sets, we’ll position ourselves to capture the moonrise as it ascends over the eastern horizon, creating a perfect juxtaposition of history, nature, and night sky.
Bring a tripod, wide-angle and telephoto lenses, and your curiosity.
All skill levels are welcome. Let’s come together to honor the intersection of art, architecture, and astronomy — and capture some memorable images.
You must sign this Liability Waiver to attend this event.
