About us
Presto is a distributed SQL engine for processing very large data sets stored across potentially different storage systems. Our goal is to come together as a community to connect with each other, share experiences and learnings, and discuss the various challenges we have to address our different use cases.
The Presto project is governed by the Presto Foundation, under the Linux Foundation.

Hands On WorkShop Series - Get Started with Presto & Prestissimo (Presto C++)
·OnlineOnlineIn this hands-on workshop, participants will learn how to build and run Presto from source and explore the architecture behind one of the most widely used distributed SQL query engines.
The speaker will guide participants step-by-step through the process of setting up the development environment, compiling Presto from source, and running a working Presto cluster locally.
The speaker will also cover the steps involved in building the Presto C++ worker to help participants understand how the different components fit together and how the C++ worker integrates with the Java coordinator in a hybrid Presto deployment.
By the end of the workshop, attendees will have a clear understanding of how Presto is built, how its components interact, and how to get a full development setup running from source.
What you will learn:
- Overview of Presto architecture and components
- Setting up a local development environment for Presto
- Building Presto from source
- Running a local Presto cluster
- Building and running Presto C++ workers
- Understanding how Java and C++ components work together in Presto
Who should attend:
- Data engineers
- Backend engineers working with data infrastructure
- Contributors or developers interested in the Presto codebase
- Anyone who wants a deeper understanding of how Presto works internally
Prerequisites:
- Basic familiarity with distributed systems or data platforms
- Experience with Java and/or C++ is helpful but not required
- A laptop capable of running local development tools
Participants are encouraged to follow along during the session to build and run Presto from source on their own machines.
