Product Sense and Knowing When to Trust It
The Balance Between Listening and LeadingSome product decisions are obvious. Most are not.
Product managers, designers, and founders often find themselves making decisions with incomplete information, conflicting signals, and no clear right answer. Over time, repeated exposure to users, problems, and outcomes develops into something many people call product sense.
But what actually is product sense?
- When should we trust user feedback?
- When should we trust the data?
- And when should we trust our own judgment?
This meetup explores how product sense is built, where it comes from, and where its limits begin to appear.
You'll leave with insights on:
- How strong product intuition develops through repeated exposure to users and product decisions
- The difference between understanding problems and inventing solutions
- Why users are often reliable sources of problems but not necessarily of solutions
- How to make decisions when there is no clear right answer
- Where intuition can become a strength, and where it can become a liability
Expect practical examples, healthy disagreement, and perspectives that challenge conventional product thinking.
We have three exciting speakers lined up, each offering a unique perspective on what product sense looks like in practice.
Speakers are:
- Stina Pagliero – Product Sense: Deciding Without a Clear Right Answer
Product sense is one of those concepts everyone talks about but few can clearly explain. Stina explores what product sense actually looks like in practice, why some people consistently make better product decisions than others, and how strong product judgment develops over time. - Daniel Mathiasen & Troels Trier – You Can't Dashboard Delight
Drawing on their experience from the gaming industry, Daniel and Troels explore the gap between what data tells you and what great products actually feel like. They share lessons on balancing user feedback, metrics, and judgment when success depends on creating experiences users themselves struggle to describe. - Lene Nielsen – Planetary Product Sense: Giving Nature a Voice
What happens when the stakeholders affected by our products cannot speak for themselves? Lene presents her work on planetary personas and the use of AI to represent other species in design processes, challenging assumptions about intuition, empathy, and what responsible product decisions require.
Join us at H9 for an evening of fresh perspectives, practical insights, and conversations with fellow product people in Copenhagen.
Our good friends at Syndicate are making sure the bar is full and free. 🙏
