Art as a Catalyst for Social Change with Mark Henson
A Very Intimate Evening With a Master of Visionary Art
About 200 years ago there was a major shift in the subject matter of art. While previously most European art was created to adorn churches, serve as learning tools for religious teachings, or to decorate the palaces of the rich,
with the advent of the Age of Reason artists began to explore art as a medium for fomenting social change. In this slide lecture Mark will discuss the evolution of art from the past up to our present day, and how art is functioning in these troubled times to foster positive social changes.
We’ll complete the evening with a lively discussion and question and answer period.
Mark Henson was born in 1954, a native son of California. He says, “My passion is to express the divinity and foibles of humanity with a good dose of political satire and subtle eroticism.Self-propelled, I have climbed out of submersion into the sublime. I am at home in the jungles of Costa Rica and the city jungles of the West Coast of the U.S. I am inspired by nature from the cosmic to the mundane.”
