Open Mic Laughathon
**Have you ever had a cheering section in your life?**
As a former comedian, it's tough getting up on that stage. You tell a joke, hope and pray that it lands, and if it doesn't, you stand there in a state of total oblivion.
Like a job interview with a humorless hiring manager. You all live in the DMV. You've experienced this.
**So...what would it be like if we showed up and *were* the cheering section for every comedian, no matter how funny or unfunny the jokes were?**
Friends, this is as much a fun outing as it is a social experiment:
**What would it be like if we made a pact to cheer wildly and laugh at every joke by every comedian the whole night?**
We're going to completely take over the energy of the room and make it a place of celebration, support and enthusiasm. This will be the best open-mic any of these comedians have ever experienced. And it'll be a complete surprise to all of them.
We'll meet at 6 upstairs to get to know the others in our group, have some free Tarot readings and settle in for the show that begins at 7.
If you're ready to show some love and have some laughs, then join us on April 6th and let the good times roll.
Get Into the Banjo! DMV Black Banjo Meet-up. (Hyattsville)
**Are you in the DMV and interested in the Banjo?**
Join the [Black Banjo Reclamation Project](https://www.blackbanjoreclamationproject.org/) (BBRP) in celebrating the BLACK roots of the Banjo at our monthly meet-up!
Learn about Black artists and musicians in the folk and old-time music space and get connected with other resources about the banjo and traditional Folk music…also don’t be shy– jam with us! **(All skill levels welcome!** ***If you have a banjo, bring it! If not, no worries–we can share!)***
We host meet ups in Baltimore but we are excited to expand our meet-ups to PG County! Huge shoutout to the the **[Archie Edwards](https://www.acousticblues.com/)**
**[Blues Heritage Foundation ](https://www.acousticblues.com/)**for hosting our group in their amazing space.
**About the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation:**
A volunteer-run Foundation in Hyattsville, Maryland dedicated to preserving the memory of Washington D.C. blues artist and barbershop owner Archie Edwards.
Continuing his mission to keep acoustic Piedmont Blues music alive, the foundation hosts:
* [Saturday blues jams](https://www.acousticblues.com/saturday-blues-jams)
* Instrument and vocal workshops (they have done banjo workshops!)
* Monthly Open Mics
* Concerts
AND MORE!
As a thank you for offering their space for BBRP banjo meet ups, feel free to make a donation to the Archie Edwards Foundation, follow them, and attend their events!
Volunteer Night @ The Warehouse
Volunteer with us refurbishing donated bicycles to help us get them back out in the community! This event is open to both new and existing volunteers. No mechanical experience is necessary.
Note: The warehouse location is in the alley behind 1502 Mt Vernon Ave. Enter through the gray door next to a roll-down garage door. If you drive to the location, be sure to park in the street, not in the alleys or parking lots surrounding the warehouse. And wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty with bicycle grease!
Please be aware that volunteers under 18 need a parent or guardian to accompany them to their first volunteer experience and sign a liability waiver, while volunteers under 16 need a parent or guardian to accompany them at all times while volunteering with Vélocity.
Monday Evening Volleyball at the BISW
See the group description for rules, guidelines, and payment info (cost is $10). Remember to cancel your registration if you find you can't make it to an event to which you RSVP'd.
The code to access the gym will be sent to people who have registered shortly before the event. The code should be entered at the second door (furthest from Whitehaven Street) at the building opposite the main entrance of the school.
There is limited on-site surface-level parking available, as well as street parking around the facility. The underground parking lot off Whitehaven Street costs $5 an hour.
As always, participation in the volleyball is undertaken at the participant's own risk. The British International School, the sponsoring organization Virtuous Volleyball Inc., as well as the event organizer, are not liable for any injuries sustained in the course of participating, nor for any theft or damage to personal belongings.
Volunteers Only Night
We will be open ONLY for volunteers who want to work on our donated bicycles OR if you have your own bike to work on.
Everyone else will be turned away. Sorry but we want to reserve this time for fixing up bikes for our various upcoming community programs. Some help and guidance will be offered but be prepared to work mostly on your own.
We want to give time back to all our hard-working volunteers who have been so essential.

Confidence & Connection: Using Your Authentic Truth to Find Your People
**Confidence & Connection: Using Your Authentic Truth to Find Your People**
Confidence isn’t just about believing in yourself, it’s about knowing where you belong and who you can grow alongside.
In this April Confidence Lab Happy Hour, we’ll explore how living in your authentic truth helps you find your people, build meaningful collaborations, and create spaces where vulnerability is met with respect rather than risk. Together, we’ll reflect on what it looks like to advocate for yourself with clarity and care, and how confidence deepens when it’s rooted in connection rather than comparison.
Featured speaker **Lachandra Baker**, founder of **[LBB Edutainment](https://www.lbbedutainment.com/)** and author of *Your Own Biggest Cheerleader*, will share reflections on authenticity, psychological safety, and the power of community over individual achievement. Drawing from personal stories—including the significance of turning 53—Lachandra will invite us into a conversation about showing up fully, being seen, and choosing relationships that support who you truly are.
Expect a warm, welcoming atmosphere with space for reflection, shared insight, and intentional connection—plus drinks, light bites, and the kind of conversations that remind you you’re not meant to do this alone.
Come as you are. Leave feeling clearer about your voice, your people, and the confidence that grows when both are aligned.
**What is Confidence Lab?**
Confidence Lab is a monthly community experience for bold, thoughtful leaders building confidence from the inside out. Whether you’re launching a business, leading a team, navigating change, or simply striving to show up more fully—you belong here.
Our work demands clarity, courage, and conviction—but the pace of daily life can erode our sense of self. Confidence Lab creates space to reflect, reconnect, and grow with others doing purpose-driven work.
It’s designed for entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, creatives, corporate professionals, activists, and anyone ready to lead with authenticity and impact.
