A monthly meetup of Python developers from Zagreb and region.
Each month, we host an event featuring engaging talks by our community volunteers, followed by a social hour with drinks. During the summer, we take a short break from formal events and instead organize relaxed gatherings, placing a greater emphasis on socializing.

Title: Durable Python: from running custom SQS workers and Celery to Temporal
My background: I work as a software development consultant predominantly with startups.
I wanted to share my experience with getting to a reliable solution for background execution in a modern Python web app. Setting up Cron jobs or Celery is easy, but when you get your application to production, a lot of unexpected issues come up: lack of observability in a greenfield project may lead to failed jobs, inconsistent state, and other typical problems. Temporal solves this by introducing replayable workflows and separating side‑effects into activities.

- overview of how to solve a problem of background and scheduled workloads in a web app and existing solutions
- Issues and pitfalls with them
- rationale for introducing a separate service for background jobs
- history of Temporal and why it got traction
- best practices and experience with using it
