Celebrating 5 years of queer genre cinema!
We explore the vast landscape of horror, thriller, crime, and exploitation cinema to examine the diverse ways queerness exists on screen. Our selections span various eras, international cultures, and underground sub-genres.
Our Approach to Queerness:
We look beyond mainstream representation to engage with every facet of LGBTQ+ art. For us, queerness isn't just about identity labels—it exists in characters, themes, narrative structures, and distinct styles like camp or high melodrama. We actively discuss films where, for example:
- Gender boundaries are challenged or played with, even without an officially defined "trans" character.
- Sexual transgression drives the story, even in the absence of literal LGBTQ+ identities (although we have lots of those too).
Logistics:
- When: Every other Wednesday at 7:00 P.M. PST.
- Where: Online via Meetup link.
- Participation: We discuss a specific film each session. Most members watch it beforehand, but you are entirely welcome to join just to listen. Anyone from anywhere is invited to participate.

In Memoriam: Angela Pleasence (1941-2026)
"Symptoms" highlights the distinctive performance of Angela Pleasence, daughter of horror legend Donald Pleasence, Known for her piercing gaze and ethereal presence, she carved out a small niche in 1970s British horror with Symptoms—the official British entry at the 1974 Cannes Film Festival—and From Beyond the Grave (1974). Although her career primarily unfolded on stage and British TV, this is one of her rare starring roles in cinema.- Note: Most participants watch the film beforehand, but you are entirely welcome to log on and just listen to the discussion if you haven't seen it yet.
