A moderate-to-FAST spring hike up Mt.Madison (5367'). 8.6 miles, with 4300' of elevation gain. We will ascend via the less-used but spectacular Howker Ridge trail, offering seemingly endless great views. Before descending, we will visit the Madison Spring Hut, where relaxing in the sun on the south face of Madison will be an option along the way. There may also be some sledding opportunities on our way down. Even though it is getting warmer, the need for snow shoes and breaking through deep now at upper elevations should be anticipated, along with the possible need for crampons.
Book time on this hike is ~7 hours. Due to the likelihood of us encountering deep snow, ice, slush, and other adverse conditions it is questionable if we will be able to attain it.
NOTE: This is an official AMC trip, so in addition to adding yourself here, it is necessary to actually register for it on the AMC site (quick/easy):
If you have not used this site in the past, it will ask you to create a quick profile for yourself, just as you did for Meetup, reusable to sign up for future trips. You'll also find additional information about the trip.
