Better Ballot Sacramento is a ballot initiative with the goal of bringing Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) to Sacramento City and County elections. RCV is a well-established voting system designed to elect representatives who better reflect the interests of the electorate while minimizing “spoiler” effects, “vote splitting”, and encouraging voters to vote their conscience.

Join Stewart Thompson for a discussion of Ranked Choice Voting. We will review the shortcomings of our current voting process (Plurality) and how RCV can improved electoral outcomes. We will also examine the arguments against RCV and the failures of these perspectives. Finally, we will discuss the current effort to bring RCV to Sacramento City and County elections by ballot initiative on the 2026 ballot through the ballot initiative, Better Ballot Sacramento.

Stewart Thompson worked in the biotech industry on the SF Peninsula for 25 years as a research scientist, most recently as the Director of Protein Formulation. After retiring to Davis several years ago, he became involved in several community volunteer activities s well as in RCV efforts through Californians for Electoral Reform, CalRCV and Better Ballot Sacramento.
