We will begin at Training Hill - the green gate #150, right after you cross the confluence.

We will come back down Training Hill, and turn RIGHT at the sign and take the trail that will drop us down onto Hwy. 49, where we will cross the road and head onto the Quarry Trail.

Much of the beginning of the Quarry Trail is easy going on flat fire road and pavement. It links up to other trails as part of the Auburn State Recreation Area (ASRA).

After a short distance, the beautiful American River becomes visible as we traverse up a fairly short incline to meet with the switchback dirt hiking path of the PG&E road trail which leads to the rock quarry.

The short part of the trail leads us to fascinating and stunning views of two towering rocks. At this point, we will have two options - the advanced option is the Boot Buster Hill. We have yet to gauge the steepness, length, and elevation gains of this hill but it is indeed strenuous, so be prepared for a good work-out.

The intermediate option is to go to the left of Boot Buster Hill, where the incline is less strenuous. Both paths meet at the top, for awesome views of the American River.

If you have experienced hiking Training Hill and Kick Ass Hill, this represents an additional challenge. It is however, shorter than any of those two hills and had been climbed by others before. There are semi-worn but established steps along the hill for most of the way up, but you'll still need your gloves for balance. Also, a headlamp or flashlight is suggested. And plenty of water.
