Obon Festival 盆踊り at Buddhist Church of Florin 2025

Details
The 2025 Obon season continues with the Buddhist Church of Florin Obon Festival! If you missed the Bon Odori at the Sacramento Buddhist Church this year (or you just can't get enough Obon dancing), here's your chance to take part in this fun cultural event!
We highly recommend that you participate (dance!), and not just spectate. The dances are not hard, but it helps a LOT if you come to practice. There will be practice sessions at the church on July 8-10, and July 15-17 at 7:00 pm. The festival itself will be on Saturday, July 19.
Here's the schedule for the festival:
- 4:00-7:00 Exhibits and Demonstrations
- 4:00-7:00 Snack Bar
- 6:30 Sacramento Taiko Dan
- 7:30 Bon Odori (dancing)
Many of the dances use certain equipment. It's not necessary to have any of the items to do the dances, but it does make it more fun!
Here's a list of the items used in the dances: 1. Kachi Kachi (Japanese castanets) 2. Sensu (folding fan) 3. Uchiwa (circular fan, one with a round stick so it can be rotated in your hand is best) 4. Tenugui (hand towel). You may be able to get some of these items at the festival itself, at the practice sessions, or locally at Daiso.
