UC Davis psychology professor Paul Eastwick brings his brand new book about the hard science of true love, and how we can better find it.
Hi, this is Vanessa, your ENLIGHTENMENT salon host.
For February’s “Sacramento Science on Tap,” let’s talk about love and lust, connection and compatibility, and the new science about matters of the heart.
For this discussion, I’ve invited Paul Eastwick, a professor of psychology who runs the Attraction and Relationships Research Lab at UC Davis. His just-published book, Bonded by Evolution, is a new look at the science of attachment and compatibility, which challenges our most fundamental assumptions about love and attraction. Drawing on pathbreaking research, including original experiments from his own lab, Eastwick explains the real keys to lasting connection and deeper relationships.
Join me for a conversation with Eastwick as he explains:

  • Why the traits we often look for in a partner—personality, lifestyle, values, and humor—are poor predictors of compatibility, and what behaviors and experiences we should focus on instead

  • Why someone’s tendency to “date around” or their reputation as a player has little bearing on their long-term relationship potential

  • Why the most secure relationships offer a “safe haven” for each partner, and how to cultivate them in new and existing relationships

Please bring your questions — nothing is too dumb, too small or too big to ask!
I’ll provide some drinks and snacks, but please feel free to BYO.
