Chinese New Year Luncheon
City of Dharma Realm, 1029 W. Capitol Ave., West Sacramento, CA, USINVITATION: Our friends at the City of Dharma Realm Buddhist monastery have invited us again this year to their Chinese New Year's Luncheon. This has historically been a very popular event in which participants get to sample a variety of delicious vegetarian (mostly vegan) dishes, learn the significance of this momentous event in Asian culture, and enjoy musical performances.
WELCOME: We will be welcomed by temple manager Dharma Master Gwei who will share the significance of the Lunar Year of the Horse, along with other pearls of wisdom.
LUNCHEON:
There will be a table of SOS*-free McDougall-style options so that those who follow this diet will have some delicious dishes to enjoy.
*(SOS = salt, oil, sugar)Gluten-sensitive guests are invited to reach out to Tammy Wu at tammywu@cdrigdvs.org so she can consult with the kitchen staff about preparing gluten-free dishes.
ADMISSION is free; donations are welcome and optional.
ADVANCE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED: please RSVP (see attached invitation in the "Photos" section) by scanning the QR code on the invitation postcard and fill out the linked form so that our hosts may have a proper head count and prepare accordingly.
EXTRA!: 10:50: Optional Meal-Offering Ceremony and chanting: CDR has had requests from those wanting to learn more about the Meal-Offering Ceremony that takes place prior to the luncheon, and to join in on the chanting prior to dining. Guests are welcome to join in. You may arrive a bit earlier and let the ushers know of your interest in joining in on the Meal-Offering chanting so that they may show you to the dining hall around 10:50 a.m.
If you have any questions or need more information, please feel free to reach out. We look forward to seeing you soon!
