What we’re about

San Diego Foraging School's mission is to educate individuals about traditional uses of native plants used by indigenous peoples, and plants brought by settlers to this region.
- We will study the history/cultural significance of many diverse plants used by ancient peoples for their food/medicine/building/crafts by exploring different trails throughout San Diego's ecosystems: Desert, Riparian, Coastal Wetlands, Coastal Sage Scrub, Grasslands, Chaparral, Oak Woodlands, Mountain Meadow...
- Through our guided hikes/lectures, we aim to promote a deeper understanding of the relationship between humans and the natural world and to inspire a greater appreciation for the rich biodiversity of the place we call home...San Diego!
Please note: All our walks are solely for educational/social purposes. Participants will not conduct any plant poaching or foraging by law on these walks. By attending, you agree not to hold organizers or hosts liable for any injuries. It is strongly recommended to obtain 3 independent plant identifications from known expert sources before using any plants found in the wild, as many plants in San Diego have poisonous look-alikes.
