Ken’s custom walk (Ferry Building to Sausalito)

Details

Please join me for another adventure as we walk from the San Francisco Ferry Building to Sausalito. More details to come on timing and ferry schecules.

This guided group walk from the Ferry Building to Sausalito is an unforgettable journey, blending urban exploration, breathtaking waterfront views, and the iconic Golden Gate Bridge crossing. Covering approximately 10 miles, the route takes us through some of San Francisco’s most scenic spots before we arrive in Sausalito, where we’ll enjoy some time to relax before taking the ferry back together.

Walk Details
• Distance: ~11 miles
• Pace: Moderate, with stops for photos and breaks
• Terrain: Mostly flat with some gentle inclines, except for the climb up to the Golden Gate Bridge
• Ending Point: Sausalito Ferry Terminal
• Return: Ferry ride back to the Ferry Building

Route Overview

  1. Start at the Ferry Building (Gather & Orientation)

We’ll meet outside the Ferry Building, where we’ll take a moment to introduce ourselves, go over the route, and ensure everyone is ready. This is a great time to grab a quick snack or coffee from one of the vendors inside before we set off.

  1. Walk Along the Embarcadero (Sticking Together in a Busy Area)

We’ll follow the Embarcadero north, walking as a group and being mindful of cyclists and pedestrians. As we pass landmarks like the Exploratorium and Pier 39, we’ll pause briefly for group check-ins and photo opportunities.

  1. Crissy Field & Marina Green (First Rest Stop)

Once we pass Aquatic Park and Fort Mason, we’ll take our first scheduled break at Marina Green. Here, we’ll regroup, use the restrooms if needed, and enjoy the beautiful views of the bay before continuing toward Crissy Field.

  1. Golden Gate Bridge Approach (Keeping a Steady Pace)

As we make our way past the Warming Hut and up the hill toward the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center, we’ll take it slow to accommodate the incline. This is the steepest part of the walk, but the reward is an incredible view of the bridge and bay.

  1. Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge (Regrouping at the Other Side)

The 1.7-mile bridge walk is a highlight of the journey. We’ll remind everyone to stay to the right to avoid bike traffic and enjoy the views. Given the noise and wind, we’ll plan to regroup at Vista Point on the Marin side.

  1. Descending into Sausalito (Final Stretch Before Lunch & Break Time)

After crossing, we’ll walk downhill into Sausalito at a comfortable pace. As we enter the town, we’ll pause to check in and then head toward the waterfront, where everyone will have time to explore, grab a bite, and relax.

  1. Sausalito Free Time & Ferry Back (Stay Together for Boarding)

Once we reach Sausalito, we’ll set a designated meeting point and time for those who want to explore. Whether you choose to grab a bite, browse the shops, or simply sit and take in the view, we’ll all regroup at the ferry terminal in time for our return trip.

  1. Ferry Ride Back (Reflect & Celebrate!)

The ferry ride is a perfect chance to unwind, enjoy panoramic views, and reflect on our journey. As we return to the Ferry Building, we’ll officially wrap up the walk and say our goodbyes, with the city skyline welcoming us back.

This group walk offers an incredible mix of adventure, scenery, and camaraderie, making for a truly special day out on the Bay!
