La Jolla Coast Walk

This is hike number 22 in Schad's 50 Best short Hikes. It's an easy 1.5-mile out-and-back, although we will go farther than that, probably to Nicholson Point, for a 3.7-mile round trip. That's what we did on September 18, 2014 and again on August 4, 2016. It's been HOT lately, even in normally-cool La Jolla. Dress appropriately. Hiking shoes are not necessary.

We'll meet at 9:00 AM at the wide spot on Prospect St. just west of Torrey Pines Rd. (Thomas 1227 F6, N 32 50.880 W 117 16.078), and we'll step off at 9:15.

SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO: Go north on I-5 and exit at La Jolla Parkway (formerly Ardath Road). Follow La Jolla Parkway, which merges with Torrey Pines Rd. Turn right on Prospect St. The wide spot is on the right.

NOTE: A mild traffic jam on La Jolla Parkway is likely; allow about ten minutes extra for this. The parking area at the wide spot will probably be full, but parking is available nearby. Just go back across Torrey Pines Rd. and uphill one short block to Virginia Way, where street parking is usually available. Walk back down to the parking area.

MTS bus number 30 stops nearby every half hour.
