Coronado Beach

Details
This is essentially hike 39 in Schad's 50 Best Short Hikes San Diego. He lists it as a 3.2-mile out-and-back along the ocean shore. We'll walk completely around the fabled Hotel Del Coronado and return via the bay shore, a loop of roughly the same distance. A good walk for a hot summer day. (We've had a lot of hot days lately!)
The walk is very flat and almost entirely on pavement. Wear good walking shoes. However, if you choose to walk beside us on the beach, wear something suitable for sand walking.
Leashed dogs are allowed on the walkways. However, they are allowed on the beach only in one small area at the northwest end of the beach. There will be an optional side trip to the dog beach at the end of the hike.
We'll meet at 9:00 AM on Ocean Blvd. opposite Isabella Ave. and near the entrance to the lifeguard tower, a highly visible landmark. There are rest rooms nearby (N 32 41.037 W 117 11.049). We'll step off at 9:15 AM.
SUGGESTED ROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO: Go south on I-5 and take the Coronado Bridge (Highway 75) across the bay to Coronado. Turn left on Orange Ave., and then right on RH Dana Place, just before the Hotel Del Coronado. Follow this street as it becomes Ocean Blvd. Park near the lifeguard tower on Ocean Blvd. or on a nearby side street.
MTS bus number 901 from Downtown San Diego stops near the Hotel Del Coronado every half hour during the day, and more often during peak commuting times.
