You can do all of the above by attending the identification training program. You'll learn a lot more about what's happening beyond the surf zone!

Whether you're a newly-minted Open Water diver, an avid snorkeler, or an experienced diver wanting to expand your marine knowledge, this class will give you a ton of interesting facts about our underwater world...and it doesn't stop there! Once you've finished this fascinating course, you'll be able to perform surveys and record your observations online for scientists to use and analyze. It's fun, it's easy, it's FREE - and best of all, surveyors help add to a big marine-life database used by scientists in several ways.

VERY IMPORTANT: To achieve Level 2, you must receive an 80% score on the end-of-class quiz and perform 2 survey's. You'll need to know the common name and Family name of these fishes (for instance, Lingcod- Fish Family Greenling, or for inverts, Cobalt Sponge, Phylum Porifera). Your chances of achieving Level 2 are much better if you study beforehand. Please familiarize yourself with the material before you come to class.

VERY IMPORTANT: Herb's classes are excellent and fun - and they generate big waiting lists. No-shows are not appreciated! You MUST commit to attending the class, and, if you find you can't make the class, you MUST change your RSVP in time for a wait-listed member to attend. If you think work or family situations might make you cancel at the last minute, DO NOT SIGN UP. Not showing up (and thereby depriving others of a chance to take the class) is neither considerate nor fair to your fellow divers.

I was helped by several divers when I was brand new to scuba. Let's do that very same thing for some of the new or inexperienced divers in this group. You'll take them out on one dive at the Shores and help them along on their path to "Experienced" status!

Will you help me give back? (For obvious reasons this is a definite "no flake" event.) Random draw among y'all for an Atomic reg and a gift card ($100)!

WHAT: One tank dive with an inexperienced (but certified) diver as a buddy.

WHY: Because it's greatly needed

ARRIVAL TIME: Please be at our canopy NO LATER THAN 8:30 am. (I'll be there at least by 7:30 am.) I'll begin my indoc speech around 9 am.

PAIRING UP TIME: We'll begin buddying up around 9:30 am

IN-WATER TIME: Approximately 10 am

WHAT IF: Q- What if it becomes painfully obvious your dive buddy does not have the skills necessary to complete the dive? In other words, they're not simply rusty, they're missing a significant amount of the skillset and knowledge to safely perform a dive. A- You must be candid, honest, and gentle with your buddy. Tell them, in your estimation, they're not ready to perform a dive and suggest they take a refresher class or repeat their o/w class. Let the host know of this as well. (Addendum- If you are already in the water and the realization strikes you that your buddy shouldn't be diving, end the dive immediately and have the above conversation.)

This will not be a "Scuba Review Class" or anything similar... just one diver (you) buddying up with another certified (albeit less-experienced) diver. No teaching relationship, real or implied, is existent.

This is a catered event!

THIS IS A NO FLAKE EVENT

UPDATE- Normal things to go over with your buddy before the dive:

• Signals and communication underwater

• Proper gas (air) management (turnaround time, safety margins, etc)

• Proper Weighting

• Emphasis on neutral buoyancy

• Lost buddy procedures

This is an absolute "No-Flake" event.

HEY! You've got your cert card, you know your skills, but maybe you've been out of the water for a few months or so. Maybe San Diego diving is new to you. Maybe you're a brand new diver. Wouldn't it be great to be paired up with a strong, experienced diver who can share his/her knowledge and suggestions with you? Someone to go under with you who has a watchful eye? Someone you KNOW won't abandon or ignore you?

You have that here! Experienced divers who know their stuff... ready and willing to be your partner! No more excuses... time to get in the water!

There will be a bunch of experienced divers waiting to buddy up with you! Get there early to have time for talking and meeting others.

GEAR: You will need all your own gear. Rentals are available at most of the local dive stores listed here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/PowerScuba/files/. But DON'T wait until that morning to attempt a rental. You'll be disappointed.

CAVEAT: This will not be a "Scuba Review Class" or anything similar... just one diver helping another. If you need a Review class then PLEASE take a Review class with a local shop or instructor!

Bring your cert card. No card, no dive!

Don't RSVP "Yes" here unless you mean it. (Don't take a spot away from somebody else if you're not serious about attending.)

Get there early because parking can indeed suck! You may leave your extra gear on the grass while you dive. There will be dozens of divers around as well as our event support crew. (Though Power Scuba and its staff accept no responsibility for the same.)

There will be no professional or teaching/supervision relationship between divers... either real or implied. The organizers are not "leading" this event... rather they are facilitating the meeting of the listed divers in order to maximize comfort levels and enjoyment of the dive.
