About us

Hi everyone and thank you for your interest in Second Wind Camping~Colorado Getaways.
My name is Don, I was born and raised in Colorado, attended and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Denver. After graduating I joined the Navy and used the education benefits to earn a degree in American and Colorado History then taught fourth grade Colorado History, then junior/middle school Colorado History (I am showing my age when I say JUNIOR HIGH!!!) then onto high school and a brief time as a college instructor. I have written a couple books about Colorado History which I haven’t even thought about publishing but been told by several people that I should.

I’ve been a Meetup Organizer for many, many years in some capacity or another. Sometimes having to give up groups for a variety of reasons.

I’m intending for this group to be a lot like the group I had when I started and that’s to combine all of your interests of the State of Colorado into one package deal.

Camping and Getaways will mostly be dispersed camping. The hitch is I only look for camping areas which are primarily tents, small/popup trailers, vehicles which are like PRIME/AMAZON trucks or a camper shell attached to a truck, meaning I’m not much into GLAMPIN’ CAMPIN’. Wherever we’re camping, I’ll be planning a Getaway into areas of historical meaning. If I plan a camping trip I won’t be planning a hike. It’s all about other places to see than hiking a dirt trail.

When I do plan a hike, I’ll be planning them within 60 miles of Denver. The hikes will be in the easy to moderate range with a few moderate/difficult hikes. The distance will depend on the difficulty of the hike…usually around the three-to-five-mile range. It all depends!!!

Get Togethers, Happy Hours, Brunches or other types of dining/drinking and just sit around and talk about most anything but POLITICS. I plan/organize these events to get away from it. Why discuss it while others are trying to have a good time?

Colorado is the eighth largest state with a lot to see. I taught it all and now I want to see what is left. It's all out there, along the highway shoulders. We’ll follow the roads and drive without a destination until we get there. STOP, LOOK AND LINGER. Every highway bend, every scenic overlook, every canyon crook, and every alpine pass yield a glimpse into the beauty, wonder and awe of Colorado's Natural Soul.

Your suggestions are always welcomed and pretty much placed into action.

I hope to see you around the campfires, along the trails, shopping in the historical town and driving the scenic byways and mountain passes of Colorado!

Thanks again for joining SECOND WIND CAMPING~COLORADO GETAWAYS. It’s best to top off your gas tank!!!

Happy Landings!
Don
