β οΈ Important Disclaimers
- Like any activity outdoors, this event is subject to cancellation up until the morning of the event due to weather conditions.
- While we are going to use every available safety measure, outdoor bouldering is BY DEFINITION an extreme sport, so risk of serious injuries still exists.
π Event Details
This time, we are going to climb at the most diverse crag in the Seoul area, Buramsan (λΆμμ°). This area feels the most like a typical crag, with a large amount of different boulders (over 80 boulders and 160 problems) scattered across a larger area. We will focus on problems between V0-V4 grades, but will happily cheer you on if you want to attempt the local V14 π
The approach is the most difficult in comparison to the other crags we visited, but only requires about 10-15 minutes of hiking.
β
Participation Requirements
- You MUST be able to at least climb red-tape level at The Climb gyms. This is done to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants.
- To be allowed to spot, you must either have climbed with us before, or coordinate a spotting safety instruction session with me prior to the event
π Logistics
Since there is no convenient pad delivery service to this area of the city, I have coordinated a pad rental with one of the gyms, and will rent a car for 24 hours to bring the pads to the mountain. A total cost of β©120000 (β©40000 for the pads + β©80000 for the rental car) will be split evenly among the participants.
Note: the above applies if we have at least 5 people attending. It would be too expensive per person for my liking with less participants.
Conveniently, we will also use the car to drive everyone up and down the mountain so we don't have to take a taxi or walk from the gathering point to the approach start point. The closest public transport is a bus stop 30 minutes downhill from the temple.
π Agenda
9:00 - 9:30 We gather at Byeollae station (λ³λ΄μ)
09:30 - 10:00 We get to the approach start point by car (λΆμμ¬, Buramsa Buddhist temple)
10:00 - 10:15 Hike to our first rock
10:15 - 17:00 Climbing based on whatever the group chooses
17:00 onwards optionally go get dinner together as a reward for a good session π
This schedule is subject to change based on the group's decison and how people are feeling
π What to Bring
- Climbing shoes (bring ones that are both comfortable and you don't mind losing rubber on, because granite hurts your shoes as much as it does your skin)
- Chalk
- Climbing tape
- Suitable clothing
- Shoes for a 15 minute hike to the crag and between boulders
- Bug spray (important) - unlike the previous crags, this one is in the middle of a forest and bug season is in full force
- Water, snacks, food
- Hat/sunglasses
- Flip flops/sandals (highly recommended) for when you aren't climbing at the crag. You don't want to get dirt on your climbing shoes, you don't want to walk barefoot, and putting on your hiking shoes every time is a pain
- Power bank (recommended)
- Tripod if you want to record your sends π
