🔆 Murals began appearing in SF’s Mission District in the early 1970s, often serving as a means of political expression. The initial artists were largely Latin American and male, but a small band of women felt that they, too, could climb scaffolds and claim their voices. They had to counter the prevailing macho culture but succeeded in bringing a distinctive creative vision. A half century later, they are still painting and have nurtured a new generation of women muralists. This walk will visually dazzle and give all a deeper appreciation of the Mission’s history and how women have shaped its landscape.
▪︎ We'll gather for lunch after the walking tour.
