🔆 Lake Merritt, in the heart of Oakland, is a truly unique urban space. Encircled by art deco buildings and 1950s flats, this tidal saltwater and freshwater lagoon, fed by creeks and the SF Bay, was the first officially designated wildlife refuge in the US. This park not only contains a treasure trove of history with a fascinating architectural past, but it also serves as an important oasis and wildlife sanctuary as it's a stop-over on the Pacific Flyway, a route for thousands of migratory birds.
I invite you to join me and our guide Karim as we circumnavigate the lake and enjoy the Lake Merritt Botanical and Bonsai Gardens, the Nature Center, and a refreshing stop for lunch at the Grand Lake Saturday Farmer's Market.
