Language: From its Failure to its Future

Details

Almost every human has experienced having something they said misunderstood or willfully misconstrued and faced the challenges of trying hard yet failing to understand someone else’s experience.

Language, at its best, allows us to step out of our skulls and fuse with another, but it often falls short.

At this special event, let’s discuss how language has evolved, where it has succeeded and failed in the past, and what we can expect from it, now and in the future.

Is it always good to know exactly what another person means?
Has the internet and social media improved our communication?
Will technology eliminate language as we know it?
Ultimately, what is the future of language?

I'll wait for everyone at the corner of Dolores St. and 19th until 2:15 pm or so and post where we find a spot in the park in the comments section if you arrive later. Please bring a blanket or a chair and a refreshment if you like. This will be loosely moderated.
