Join us in mutual enrichment of perspectives through discussing deep topics in the company of warm, insightful people. Many of us are regulars, but newcomers are welcome!

As cities, institutions, and lives change, we constantly face choices about what to preserve and what to leave behind. This discussion will explore how renewal happens—whether in culture, community, or personal growth—and what it means to balance change with continuity.

We’ll be gathering near one of San Francisco’s storied locations, now at the twilight of one of its eras—a fitting setting to reflect on how places, and people, evolve over time.

Example questions:

  • Can cities, people, and institutions change without losing their soul?
  • Is loss a necessary cost of renewal, or can renewal happen without sacrifice?
  • Is the lifecycle—birth, flourishing, and decline—inevitable, or can it be reshaped?
  • What do we owe the past, and who decides when it’s time to let go?
  • What makes something worth preserving, and by what measure—use, beauty, history, community, or meaning?

Before the meetup, feel free to submit topic suggestions in the realm of legacy and renewal using this form:

The group will vote on which 2-3 topics we would like to talk about, then have a facilitated discussion for about 30-45 minutes on each topic.

Location Note: Once the attendee roster is finalized, we'll communicate the exact location to confirmed attendees 1-2 days before we meet. Please only attend if you have a confirmed spot, as per our norms. Standard Meetup norms/terms of service also apply: https://help.meetup.com/hc/en-us/articles/360027447252-Terms-of-Service

Looking forward to our discussion!
