Del Popolo launched as a mobile pizzeria in May of 2012, churning out Neapolitan-inspired pizza from a glass enclosed shipping container on a Freightliner truck.

In November 2015, we opened our brick-and-mortar restaurant, featuring the same naturally-leavened, wood-fired pizza we’ve obsessed over since 2012, along with market-driven antipasti and a curated list of wine and beer.

Well, here I am trying to sell you on going to eat Pizza. Our estemed host Thuy has a schedule of lauded, amazing pizza places in San Francisco and I encourage you to seek out those, because they rank among my favorites also.

What makes Del Popolo special?

Food and Wine ranked them as number five (5) in the Nation. Placing among other bay area establishments they rank in the top 50 best in the World and best in the US. Michelin the famed restaurant guide recognizes Del Popolo. Local critics at San Francisco Chronicle, SF Eater, basically all of them recognize this is a place to eat.

But me? Their website says they first froze pizza's in 2019, seems much longer than that, but I was probably late to the party. One day at Bi-Rite Grocery I picked up a frozen pizza, something fast to cook when I didn't have time, and a vegetarian one to boot, but it looked good. Del Popolo simply calls this Potato. Made with Yukon Gold Potatoes, Onions and Rosemary, if I was a better writer angels would blast trumpets when this is said out loud, flutes would sing quietly as those words are read, but i can only say simply no better frozen pizza - and better when baked fresh. If there is a hidden Pizza guide, Del Popolo's have found the one.

Hand tossed crust, crispy, stretchy and tasty, special ingredients for each one and a list of other amazing dishes, I hope you will not be disappointed. Each Pizza is large enough for one person to eat and take some home, or share. Perfectly sized.

Administrative Trivia
Del Popolo menu shows pizza and a starter pricing is about $35 per person, excluding tax and tip. Alcoholic drinks can easily increase this average. Inclusive bill may be under $50.

Dress is warm smart casual. An early evening event in the usually fog free Lower Nob Hill Neighborhood - Bring a Jacket.

Each diner is responsible for their own orders and costs. If the restaurant doesn't provide separate checks we will have to consolidate and divvy up the final bill accordingly. Please bring cash or have Zelle or Apple Cash available.

Taxes and Fees
Dining in San Francisco has a sales tax (8.625%) and probably an employee health mandate (3-10%), a tip (20%) may be automatically added, even on individual bills. I calculate each diner's orders separately unless they allow separate orders, separate checks, the meal is shared or family style, and round up.

Parking and Transportation
MUNI: California St Cable Car (2 block away - hills), Powell Street Cable Car 1 blocks - less hilly) and #1 and #2 bus.

Finding street parking in Nob Hill and Lower Nob Hill is usually difficult.
Parking garage can be found at The Masonic (2 blocks) and Royal Parking (1 block away)
