[Dinner] The Mothership of Grilled Chicken at Il Pollaio - Table for Ten
Details
Il Pollaio - The Chicken Coop
Maybe I have ADHD, or maybe I found another gem... more like pointed to it by a member who lives in North Beach.
While in search of Chicken Wings, I was reminded at Arquet that San Francisco has many roast chicken dishes, Arquet's Roasted Chicken is touted as good as Zuni Cafe... which is a high bar. And any dish that Thomas Keller of the French Laundry weighs in on, especially during an emmy nominated episode, or a free how to cook tutorial.
Il Pollaio means chicken coup, serving Italian-American cuisine since 1984, over 40 years. They come highly recommended and after a recent meal I have to agree. They have more than Grilled Chicken, they have Pork, Sausage, Steak Eggplant a well rounded menu.
The San Francisco Chronicle had a great review calling this establishment "The Mothership of Grilled Chicken".
Minutiae
They are known for family style meals, so ordering those are encouraged. If we have a lot of people interested I will open more tables. This is a nice family restaurant.
History
Opened in 1984 by Marta and Giuseppe Castellucci, Il Pollaio has been serving grilled chicken and meats to North Beach, San Francisco for decades. The name means “the chicken coop” in Italian. Il Pollaio specializes in grilled chicken cooked moist inside with the skin crispy. They also feature ribeye steaks, lamb and pork chops, rabbits, and sausages. The chimichurri sauce is a must.
