Humanist Holiday Party

If you don't believe the stories behind the holiday season, what is there to celebrate? Actually, quite a lot! Bay Area Humanist member, Keith Chisholm, will briefly explore the astronomical, anthropological, and humanist reasons and ways to celebrate this important time of the year. The holidays are certainly NOT just for the religious!

We'll also look back at what Bay Area Humanists have achieved this year, and look forward to the exciting programs and projects we are planning for the coming year. Would you like to be part of a humanist book discussion group or help with a humanist community service projects? Come and hear about these and other plans and let us know what you want the group to do in 2014.

And we'll have plenty of time for celebratory snacks, libations, music, and laughs.
If you’re up for it, we can also go to a nearby restaurant after the party. Let's celebrate!

We'll be in the Andre Lorde room.

I've got a bunch of "fractured" Christmas carols and holiday songs that would be fun to perform if I can get a group together. Best to have at least one, preferably more on a part (SATB). I think we could do this with one rehearsal at my house (Berkeley) earlier that day or perhaps the weekend before. Does anyone know if there's a decent piano in the room? All songs can be done a cappella, but easier to stay in tune with a piano! Please give me your voice part and some idea of musical proficiency when you reply.

Organizers -- how much time should we figure on?

Pianists - I have a 4-hand version of "Sleigh Ride." Want to give it a try?

Hi Leslie, I don't think there is a piano in the room. I'm sure we could work at least a couple of songs into the busy schedule.

I thought I'd already canceled. Didn't hear from anyone and have other plans now for the day.

I'm a new member, and wish I were able to attend, to meet some of you. To get into the mood, you might want to check out Mystery Science Theater's "A Patrick Swayze Christmas" on Youtube:

Is this a snack/libation potluck sort of thing? Are we invited to bring them?

    November 26, 2013

    • Jim B.

Hi Laura, we will provide snacks/libations but anyone who wishes to bring something to share are welcome to do so.
