Learn about Sanic, an async web framework and vote on Python-powered start-ups
Details
On March 8, learn about Sanic, one of the first asynchronous Python web frameworks to use the Python 3.5+ async/await keywords. Then, get into the spirit of PyCon 2017 by voting on your favorite Python-powered startup.
Avoid delays and help us plan better by registering via our ticketing partner tito.io (https://ti.to/sf-python/learn-about-sanic-an-async-web-framework-and-vote-on-python-powered-start-ups).
Async/await is a fairly new topic and SF Python is super excited that Eli Uriegas, the lead maintainer of Sanic, will be coming from San Antonio Texas to tell us more. Eli will cover how Sanic uses async, it's advantages, and useful applications of async/await outside of the standard httprequests / sleep and print applications that we see in Python's standard documentation. He will also provide examples that include things like asyncio protocol implementation, using that asyncio protocol with async functions, and how to run all of these in an asyncio loop (preferably uvloop).
Eli works at Rackspace and also contributes to opencafe, an OpenStack project. He has also authored nba_py.
Then, get to know the most promising python-powered start-ups in SF/Bay Area. The presenting start-ups are screened and hand picked by PyCon’s Startup Row (https://us.pycon.org/2017/events/startup_row/) organizers. And now, we need your vote, and the judges', to gift a deserving start-up a free booth to showcase their company at PyCon Portland 2017 (https://us.pycon.org/2017/).
Start-up Row finalist this year include:
• Deepgram ( https://www.deepgram.com/ ) – Deepgram develops and deploys a deep learning-powered speech search engine.
• Ledger (stealth) – Ledger helps friends split bills.
• FloydHub ( https://www.floydhub.com/ ) – FloydHub is building a platform-as-a-service for training and deploying deep learning models in the cloud.
• Relimetrics ( http://relimetrics.com/ ) – Relimetrics combines machine learning, computer vision and structural engineering expertise to automate reliability and QA testing in manufacturing.
• UnifyID ( https://unify.id/ ) – UnifyID combines implicit authentication with machine learning to uniquely identify users based on novel biometric data.
• 6th contestant (TBD)
