What we're about

We’re looking for hosts to start more in-person events! Go to https://shutupwrite.com/organizers to sign up.

For online events, check out our Online Events Meetup at https://www.meetup.com/shutupandwriteonlineevents.

Shut Up & Write hosts free in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer, regardless of genre or skill level, has access to the community, accountability, and resources they need to be successful in their personal writing goals. Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, an hour of focused writing, and a final check-in to share the hour's progress.

What to Expect

RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled at an in-person event. Our host will lead introductions and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time.

Afterward, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

For more information, visit https://shutupwrite.com, or email us at questions@shutupwrite.com. To learn more about our events, check out our Getting Started Guide at https://shutupwrite.com/getting-started-guide.

Shut Up & Write: Online—On Wednesdays, We Write! with @HaleyBCU

Link visible for attendees

Howdy & welcome to the Shut Up & Write Party! This is a recurring event. Come spend your evening with us, because "On Wednesdays, We Write!".

YOU'RE INVITED!
Please, join us for an hour or two from the comfort of your own home. We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with others, even if we’re all just hanging out online together. Come see if it’s true for you, too.

You'll be doing your own thing! Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem, other creative project, or just plain work stuff, you are invited to do it with us. Come and get your work done! (But don't fret. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. This a supportive & open space that will remain judgement-free.)

WHAT TO EXPECT:
At this Shut Up & Write session, we settle in to work together by getting to know a bit about our fellow writers. You'll be invited to answer a silly question, because it's a fantastic ice breaker, but it's completely optional. Some folks even start working while we're chatting. Whatever method suits you best. This is your time.

BASIC TIMELINE (all times are in US EST, and they'll vary a bit, depending on group size)
9:00 PM - Introductions: Tell us who you are, where you're from, & what you're working on!
9:30 PM - Microphones on Mute: Time to Shut Up & Write for one dedicated hour.
10:30 PM - Time for a Dance Break: Stretch your legs, shake it off, & tell us how you're going. Feel free to take off, or keep working!
10:45 PM - Microphones on Mute: Shut Up & Write for one more hour.
11:45 PM - Home Stretch & Check-Out: Tell us how it went & what your plans for next session are!
12:00 AM - Have a great night!

Feel free to join when you can & stay as long as you'd like!

WHAT DO YOU NEED?
Your fantastic self, along with either a smart phone, tablet, or computer with an Internet connection. For the best experience, it helps to have a computer with working camera & microphone. Headphones are optional, but they do make you look super cool.

TECH DETAILS:
If you’ve never used your computer for an online meeting, take a few minutes before we meet to familiarize yourself with how to use Zoom by reviewing this tutorial:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbbYqiurgeo

ZOOM PASSCODE:
Normally, you won't need a passcode. You can simply click on the link in the event details and go straight to the meeting's waiting room. However, if you do find you need one, the passcode is[masked].
