What we're about

We’re looking for hosts to start more in-person events! Go to https://shutupwrite.com/organizers to sign up.

For online events, check out our Online Events Meetup at https://www.meetup.com/shutupandwriteonlineevents.

Shut Up & Write hosts free in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer, regardless of genre or skill level, has access to the community, accountability, and resources they need to be successful in their personal writing goals. Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, an hour of focused writing, and a final check-in to share the hour's progress.

What to Expect

RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled at an in-person event. Our host will lead introductions and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time.

Afterward, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

For more information, visit https://shutupwrite.com, or email us at questions@shutupwrite.com. To learn more about our events, check out our Getting Started Guide at https://shutupwrite.com/getting-started-guide.

Who?
Sometimes it will just be the moderator, and sometimes it will be 5 or more people. We are fiction and nonfiction writers. Some write Dungeons and Dragons Campaigns, some write blogs, and others are writing novels. Sometimes it’s just the moderator. Bring a friend.

What?
Write until you’ve got 2 thousand words if you want a challenge. If not… just come with your own project.

When?
Sessions will be held on Sunday at 6AM Pacific, 8AM Central, and 9AM Eastern. We will start writing at 8:10.

Where?
Virtual on a platform called 8x8

Why?
Because writing well takes practice.

How?
There are two writing sessions of 45 minutes each.
We turn off our cameras and mics while we’re writing unless you need to keep your camera on for accountability.

Keep up with your wordcount on your own word processor, or if you would like to use a tool to see our progress, use this link for WORDSPRINTS.ORG.

Shut Up & Write! Kansas City - at Made In KC Cafe

Needs a location

Let's start our Sunday by being productive!

We will be meeting at Made In KC Cafe in the back >> 1114 Baltimore Ave, Kansas City, MO 64105

See you there! ❤️

I will be hosting and will try and greet people as they come in. If you come in a little after 1pm, grab a seat in the back and start writing silently.

After the hour of writing is up--sometime between 2pm and 2:15 p.m.--feel free to greet others who have finished their one-hour writing session. Or feel free to keep writing or take off.

There usually is plenty of free on-street parking in this area. There also are at least two parking garages within a block or two.
