What we're about

For more virtual events, join our Online Events Meetup here: https://www.meetup.com/shutupandwriteonlineevents/

Shut Up & Write!® is more than a movement, more than a good idea. We’re a method of writing that delivers. As an international organization, we are thousands of writers in a worldwide community, but most importantly, we are writers who write together in a local cafe. Join us.

We have events every week, all over. Sometimes we talk after. Whatever you’re writing, whatever form it takes, wherever you are in your process, you won’t be the only one.

And if you need help with your writing, we offer that too.

Meetup Event Format

It is an empowering and rewarding experience to write an hour each week, at the same time and place. It serves as powerful support for building your daily writing discipline.

RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled. At the Meetup our Organizer will lead introductions and then everyone will sit down and write.

Afterwards, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. The Shut Up & Write!® format brings a social facet to a normally isolated craft.

Our Meetups are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

“Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else.“ - Gloria Steinem

This is your time to write.

From all over the country and world, welcome to the San Fernando Valley area branch of Shut Up & Write! Online Events. We will do quick introductions at 10:00 AM, and then 'shut up and write' for one-two hour minimum with the goal of advancing our project by 500 quality words. If you log-in late, just start writing so as not to disturb the writers already in progress. The idea is to focus, uninterrupted, on writing, for a minimum of one hour. Following our writing time, feel free to network and/or share ideas and resources. This is our time to increase our writing productivity and thrive off common purpose with others. Finish that novel, journal, article, screenplay, or blog you've been working on!

Meetup is modifying its mission statement having discovered that its attendance booms online while Shut Up & Write!, knowing that it's strikingly helpful to write with others, has discovered it works even if we’re all together writing online -together yet apart. See if it’s true for you on Saturdays at 10:00 AM Pacific. Start your writing day here

Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem, or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. And don’t worry, no one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice.

WHAT DO I NEED?
A computer with working webcam and microphone, a good internet connection, and optionally, headphones.

OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS:
Technical difficulties are part and parcel of getting together online.

If you’ve never used your computer for an online meeting, take a few minutes before we meet to familiarize yourself with how to use Zoom by reviewing the below tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VebiA5pGq0

If you run into technical issues, remember that this is the time you’ve carved out for yourself and your writing. Whether or not you were able to join our online meet-up, go ahead and get your writing started, then leave a comment below to let us know how it went for you.

We will return to Panera Bread-Woodland Hills when the Los Angeles mayor and county health director reopen indoor dining.
