What we're about
Upcoming events (5+)
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 6:30 - Introduction/Greeting/Social (Meet at Starbucks in front of Gas Tower) 6:45 - Go up elevator to meeting room 6:50 - Timer starts: write for 1 hour. 7:50 - (the end) chat / take off We will leave the room at 8pm. :) Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. IMPORTANT: Please meet us AT STARBUCKS OUT FRONT. We will chat there until 6:45 and go upstairs together. IF YOU ARE LATE (PAST 6:45) you may not get in! Life happens but try your very best to be on time. :) Another note on the waitlist -- previous and/or regular attendees are generally given priority to help offset no-shows. If you have been trying to get in but are stuck in waitlist limbo, message me on Meetup and I will do my best to accommodate you. Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you at WeWork Gas Tower! What Should I Bring? Whatever you need to be able to write! Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block any noise from other other patrons. Other Important Details: WiFi available
A critique night on Larchmont (between Hollywood and K-town) for people looking for feedback on writing. All genres/project types are welcome. Each person will have between 5-10 minutes to read something aloud, then each person will critique for 1-2 minutes depending on the number of people who show up. Bring copies to pass around to other writers if desired. If we run out of time to get to everyone we will go in order of arrival to the event.
Welcome to the San Fernando Valley area branch of Shut Up & Write! LA. We will do quick introductions at 10:00 am, and then 'shut up and write' for one hour minimum. If you arrive late, please take a seat quietly and just start writing, so as not to disturb the writers already in progress. The idea is to focus, uninterrupted, on writing, for a minimum of one hour. Following our writing time, please network and/or share ideas and resources. This is our time to increase our writing productivity. Finish that novel, journal, article, screenplay, or blog you've been working on! Come join us at Panera Bread in Woodland Hills-- the food is good and the writing is better! https://youtu.be/8TzRDMcZysc
Have a novel you completed years ago that is still sitting on a shelf? A screenplay you never created a logline for? A poem you meant to send to a literary journal, an app you never submitted to iTunes, a song you wrote but never performed? You are in the right place! Please join us for an evening of co-working specifically geared toward promoting/publishing our work. We can all benefit from the synergy that working in a group of like-minded people can offer. Bounce ideas off each other, get feedback on your query letters, conquer your fears, and just be encouraged! Instead of letting your creative work sit on the proverbial shelf, come join us as we support each other in taking risks, and taking the next step (whatever that means to you)! Bring your laptop! :) SCHEDULE: 5:45 - Introduction/Greeting/Social 6:00 - Go up elevator to meeting room 6:15-8pm - Collaboration 8:00 - (the end) chat / take off We will leave the room at 8pm. :) IMPORTANT: Please meet us AT STARBUCKS OUT FRONT.
