What we're about

Shut Up & Write!™ is more than a movement, more than a good idea. We’re a method of writing that delivers. As an international organization, we are thousands of writers in a worldwide community, but most importantly, we are writers who write together in a local cafe. Join us.

We have events every week, all over. Sometimes we talk after. Whatever you’re writing, whatever form it takes, wherever you are in your process, you won’t be the only one.

And if you need help with your writing, we offer that too.

Meetup Event Format
It is an empowering and rewarding experience to write an hour each week, at the same time and place. It serves as powerful support for building your daily writing discipline.

RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled. At the Meetup our Organizer will lead introductions and then everyone will sit down and write.

Afterwards, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. The Shut Up & Write!™ format brings a social facet to a normally isolated craft.

Our Meetups are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

“Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else.“ - Gloria Steinem

This is your time to write.

Shut Up & Write!™ Munich - online

Online with google meet

*****ONLINE VERSION******* No install required. https://meet.google.com/yee-onou-ipo Join us for two hours of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 09:30 on Saturday. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 09:30 - SESSION 1: quick intros. 09:45 - timer starts: write for 1 hour. 10:45 - chat / take off / keep writing for another timed hour (starting at ~11:15). OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens after we're done with the first/second writing hour. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer. Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you! What Should I Bring? Whatever you need to be able to write! Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the cafe’s overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons. There should be enough sockets to charge your devices, but make sure to charge them just in case! :) Other Important Details: GUIDELINES: Please thank our hosts by purchasing something. FUTURE LOCATIONS: If you have ideas about where and when we should meet, please share them! :) If you're on the waiting list, but still really really want to come, feel free to drop by — but in case we end up being too large of a group to manage, or we don't find enough free seats, the priority is on the folks with the 'going' RSVPs!

Shut Up & Listen

Online event

Hey fellow writers! Our fist Shut Up & Listen meetup was a HUGE success. I am so impressed with what talented writers we have in this group. I am so excited to see what you will share next! This is intended to be a safe space where we get to know the people that we write with each week. Hey, it's good practice for when we're all successful writers on book tours, too, right?? Please select something short that you could read aloud in **5-10** minutes or less. This can be anything at all that you would like to share. It doesn't need to be a current project. It doesn't need to be a complete piece. It doesn't even need to be in English. We are not seeking feedback other than something short such as "thanks for sharing" from the rest of the group. Also please feel free to attend if you aren't feeling ready to share yet. I am putting a limit of 12 people on the event so that we do not run over our time limit. I am requesting that you comment in your RSVP if you intend to speak or just listen so that we can schedule accordingly. I'm excited for this opportunity to share with each other!
