What we're about

We’re looking for hosts to start more in-person events! Go to https://shutupwrite.com/organizers to sign up.

For online events, check out our Online Events Meetup at https://www.meetup.com/shutupandwriteonlineevents.

Shut Up & Write hosts free in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer, regardless of genre or skill level, has access to the community, accountability, and resources they need to be successful in their personal writing goals. Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, an hour of focused writing, and a final check-in to share the hour's progress.

What to Expect

RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled at an in-person event. Our host will lead introductions and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time.

Afterward, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

For more information, visit https://shutupwrite.com, or email us at questions@shutupwrite.com. To learn more about our events, check out our Getting Started Guide at https://shutupwrite.com/getting-started-guide.

Upcoming events (4+)

Weekly Writing Session at Narrative Coffee Roasters (Central Ave Location)!

The way that the Shut Up & Write!® community works is that we get together at a fun coffee shop or other cozy place + write together!

Here's what our schedule looks like:
1:00pm - Quick introductions (just saying hi to each other and grabbing a yummy drink or pastry - nothing scary or intimidating here!)
1:15pm - Our Timer begins! We'll write for 1 hour.
2:15pm - The End: chatting with each other, head out, or keep writing if you want to!

You can bring whatever you've been working on, or start something totally brand new. You don't need to have any writing experience to join us, so to my newbies: you're definitely welcome here, too! Please note that we aren't a critique group, just an accountability/social group (but by all means, feel free to grab a buddy after our meeting to talk about what you've written together!)

Again, no one will actually be seeing what you've written, so no need to feel self-conscious about your work. Instead of just thinking about writing, come make it happen!

If you've ever wanted to try writing a short story or novel, conduct research for a biography, spill your heart out into some poetry, get in the habit of journaling, create a comic book, craft a really kick-tush resume for your job search, or anything else involving the craft of writing, now is the time - we are here to support each other in your goals! Also, if you're feeling ambitious and want to tackle your to-do list, you can even get some work done for Monday (Sunday Scaries, who!?) or bring a dissertation, for example, if you're in grad school - look at you go, so proud of you claps! :P

(As a side note: we'd like to make sure to thank the coffee shop for having us by purchasing something from them to drink or eat - you can save it for later, too, if you'd rather just focus on writing!)

Hope to see ya there! :)
