Shut Up & Write hosts free in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer, regardless of genre or skill level, has access to the community, accountability, and resources they need to be successful in their personal writing goals. Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress.
What to Expect
RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled at an in-person event. Our host will lead introductions and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time.
Afterward, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

Dear Shut Up & Writers,
As you are all aware, the dangers from the Corona virus have required some changes on everyone's part, in order to keep each other safe. While we wait this out, however, there's no reason not to write!
So...we are continuing to meet - virtually. We have temporarily organized "Virtual Shut Up & Write Philadelphia." I'll post the "meeting room" up above before the meeting starts.
If you want to write from your house (or anywhere else you find comfortable), come join us. Check in will be at 6:30 on Monday. If you "arrive" later, and check-in is over, just turn on your webcam, mute your mic, and start writing. We'll smile at you and wave and we'll have another check-in half way through. We'll keep doing this until the pandemic has blown over, or until I can't use the zoom link any longer, whichever comes first!

NOTE: I'll be away this week, so Kristin will be your host. Join us weekly for 90 minutes of productive writing at The Bourse! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you from 9:00-11:00 am on Tuesday mornings.
Whether you're working on a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem, or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
SCHEDULE:
9:00-9:10 - Order refreshments; say hello
9:10-9:15 - Brief introductions; tell us what you're working on
9:15 - Timer starts: write for 90 minutes
10:45 - The End: Tell us how your writing went, chat, take off, or keep writing
Optional socializing happens at the beginning and end of the session. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
Being late is okay. Just show up and get settled, then check in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING?
Whatever you need to be able to write!
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to listen to your own music or block out the occasional conversation by others in the area.
If you're writing on your laptop, be sure it's fully charged, as there's no guarantee you'll have an outlet nearby. There is free wifi available.
Please be prepared to order a beverage and/or snack from Menagerie Coffee (across from the 5th St entrance) or another Bourse vendor to thank our hosts.
OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS
Parking can be tight and/or expensive here, so consider other options than driving.
