About us
Shut Up & Write! is a global community that empowers writers to overcome procrastination, silence their inner critic, and make consistent progress on their projects. Our events provide a structured and focused environment where writers can come together, set aside distractions, and achieve their writing goals.
What to Expect
Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress. Once you arrive, our host will lead introductions, and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time. Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

Shut Up & Write!® in East Falls, Philadelphia
Vault + Vine, 3507 Midvale Ave, Philadelphia, PA, USCo-working for writers in East Falls, Philadelphia!
Join us for some focused writing time at Vault + Vine coffee shop and plant store in East Falls!
All writers and all experience levels are welcome. Don't worry, no one will see what you've written. This session is about getting your writing done and meeting other writers in your area.
When you show up, say hello to everyone on the upper level, and grab a drink or snack if you wish. Once you’re all settled, take some time to chat with your fellow writers. Once everyone’s arrived, I will lead quick introductions and then set the timer for our quiet and focused writing session.
Afterward, we’ll have (optional) time to chat and get to know each other. We often talk about our successes and challenges as writers. If you don’t have time to stick around, no worries!
A note about the format
We don’t host critiques or readings. These events are a safe space for writers of all skill levels and genres to work on their craft, so no one will read or critique your writing. For our full event schedule, visit https://shutupwrite.com

Shut Up & Write!® Fishtown
Haraz Coffee House, 23 West Girard Avenue (Fishtown), Philadelphia, PA, USFeeling stuck in your writing or writing routine? Want a change of scene, a time carved out to focus on your writing project, or a chance to meet other local writers? I myself have found that SUAW, as some of us call it, has addressed all of the above.
First, at 10 after the hour, we go around the table(s) saying, "This is what I'm planning to work on today." The organizer then starts a timer for 90 minutes, during which we write quietly but together. At the end of that time, we go around again and say how it went. Sticking around afterwards and chatting, ordering more, etc. is completely optional. :)
There's no need or pressure to show anyone what you've written or to describe your experience in any particular way. This is meant to be a comfortable and supportive space for people to get their writing done regardless of genre or experience level. To that end, Haraz is offering us the cafe's back room when there isn't a previously scheduled event in that space.
Also, I know that people have work and other obligations, health issues, transportational difficulties, too many things happening at once, and so on. If you can't make it by 3:10, need to leave early, or can't hang around later, no worries; life happens. :)

Shut Up & Write!® [Old City]
Café Square One, 311 Market St, Philadelphia, PA, USIMPORTANT: Please register for this and all subsequent meetings at Shut Up & Write, not here on Meetup.
Join us weekly for 90 minutes of productive writing at Cafe Square One. We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you from 9:00-11:00 am on Tuesday mornings.
Whether you're working on a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem, or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
SCHEDULE:
9:00-9:10 - Order refreshments; say hello
9:10-9:15 - Brief introductions; tell us what you're working on
9:15 - Timer starts: write for 90 minutes
10:45 - The end: Tell us how your writing went, chat, take off, or keep writingOptional socializing happens at the beginning and end of the session. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
Being late is okay. Just show up and get settled, then check in with the host after the session. If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING?
Whatever you need to be able to write!
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to listen to your own music or block out background noise or music playing in the cafe.
If you're writing on your laptop, be sure it's fully charged, as there's no guarantee you'll have an outlet nearby. The café does have free wi-fi; the password is printed on your purchase receipt.
Please be prepared to order a beverage and/or snack to thank our hosts. Use a kiosk near the counter to order with a credit/debit card or your phone.
OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS
Parking can be tight and/or expensive here, so consider other options than driving.
Happy writing, and we look forward to seeing you there on Tuesday mornings.
