What we're about

Shut Up & Write!® is more than a movement, more than a good idea. We’re a method of writing that delivers. As an international organization, we are thousands of writers in a worldwide community, but most importantly, we are writers who write together in a local cafe. Join us.

We have events every week, all over. Sometimes we talk after. Whatever you’re writing, whatever form it takes, wherever you are in your process, you won’t be the only one.

And if you need help with your writing, we offer that too.

Meetup Event Format

It is an empowering and rewarding experience to write an hour each week, at the same time and place. It serves as powerful support for building your daily writing discipline.

RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled. At the Meetup our Organizer will lead introductions and then everyone will sit down and write.

Afterwards, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. The Shut Up & Write!® format brings a social facet to a normally isolated craft.

Our Meetups are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

“Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else.“ - Gloria Steinem

This is your time to write.

Thursdays at the Mill

The Montague Bookmill

Heya Writers, We meet at the Lady Killigrew in the lower level of the Montague Bookmill to get in an hour or so of productive writing. We sit at the long center table. If Killigrew is too crowded, we take another table or two until the cafe clears out (usually around 6:30). There is free WiFi and outlets for charging, but not at our table, so it's a good idea to Charge Up in Advance! If you only see a couple people signed up on Meetup, it doesn't mean much. We have a handful of people who do not RSVP, so there's usually several people in attendance. That being said, please try to RSVP if you plan to attend. If you can't make it, please change your RSVP to give someone else your spot. SPRING/SUMMER SCHEDULE: 6:30 - 7:15 p.m. - Introductions and Announcements 7:15 - 8:30 p.m. - Quiet writing 8:30 - 9:00ish p.m. - Wrap Up, chat with your fellow writers, say goodbyes. You can leave as soon as you are done writing, or stay and chat until they kick us out! If you cannot arrive by 6:30 pm, please don't hesitate to still join us. If you arrive during the writing period, just sit down with us and start writing! There will be time for introductions Hi, I'm Valdrinn from DO. I was with you guys on first part of BWL this week. Tried signing up with the bot. The number next to the shadow priest icon decreases, but it didn't list me under priests. a hidden gem with good food, coffee, wine and beer, and amazing views of the Sawmill River waterfall.
