What we're about

We’re looking for hosts to start more in-person events! Go to https://shutupwrite.com/organizers to sign up.

For online events, check out our Online Events Meetup at https://www.meetup.com/shutupandwriteonlineevents.

Shut Up & Write hosts free in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer, regardless of genre or skill level, has access to the community, accountability, and resources they need to be successful in their personal writing goals. Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, an hour of focused writing, and a final check-in to share the hour's progress.

What to Expect

RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled at an in-person event. Our host will lead introductions and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time.

Afterward, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

For more information, visit https://shutupwrite.com, or email us at questions@shutupwrite.com. To learn more about our events, check out our Getting Started Guide at https://shutupwrite.com/getting-started-guide.

Online Event: Shut Up & Write on Skype

Link visible for attendees

Join us for an hour or so of writing from the comfort of your own home!

We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with others, even if we’re all just hanging out online together. See if it’s true for you at 2:30 on Saturday afternoons.

Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. And don’t worry, no one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice.

SCHEDULE:
2:30 - Quick introductions
2:45 - Timer starts: write for 1 hour
3:45 - The End: chat, take off, or keep writing

WHAT DO I NEED?
A computer with working camera and microphone, a good internet connection, and optionally, headphones.

OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS:
Technical difficulties are part and parcel of getting together online.

Skype: https://join.skype.com/p184lKUciHg4

If you run into technical issues, remember that this is the time you’ve carved out for yourself and your writing. Whether or not you were able to join our online meet-up, go ahead and get your writing started, then leave a comment below to let us know how it went for you.

Shut Up & Write!® Raleigh/3801 Hillsborough Street (Near the Fairgrounds)

Join us for an hour (weekly) of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 4:00pm on Sunday afternoons.

Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.

SCHEDULE:
4:00 - Quick introductions
4:15 - Timer starts. Write for 1 hour
5:15 - The End: chat, take off, or keep writing

OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 3:30pm. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.

BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.

Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you at the Lucky Tree Cafe!

What Should I Bring?
Whatever you need to be able to write!

Inside the café there are electrical outlets to charge your laptop. If the café is crowded there is a large table just outside the door where no electricity is available. Please bring your laptops fully charged.
